  • No heating on here but I'm amazed people can wait until November! Every year prior to this I have always found that the last week in September is too cold for no heating! This year have moved into the best insulated house that I have ever lived in so have already lasted longer than usual although Mr Pincher does moan about being a bit cold sometimes!

The recommended minimum temperature is 18 degrees, I believe. Please please please everybody stay warm enough to stay healthy - unfortunately winter deaths due to the cold are a preventable reality especially for elderly people trying to cut down on fuel costs.
  • Its not so much the cold I don't think , but when bedclothes start to feel damp that I would have to put the heating on for a little while, if its sunny during the day its not too bad as the room warms up.
  • Ooops a confession here! we were feeling a little chilly so I suggested putting on electric fire in living room for a few minutes but then remembered the advice on here about firing up central heating during summer months to stop pump seizing... so put heating on - all seems to be working fine - only had it on 20 minutes and already toasty so will turn it off in a minute! Determined to enjoy it as our last house only had one source of heat which was a gas fire in the living room and the rest of the house was freezing all winter, spring, autumn...!

Oh well...if you're all testing the pump, here goes...:-))
  • I feel left out now as I don't have a pump to test. Excuse my ignorance but what is this pump people keep mentioning? I've had central heating in the past but I don't recall a pump. :rotfl:

Hi Happy...It's comes twix the boiler and the radiators and propels or pulls the hot water round the system. It is also connected to the thermostats so virtually automatic. Has to be tested in the summer now and again to stop it sticking.
If you put your hand on it you can feel it running.

Am in south east Scotland and although its lovely in the day time at the moment [2 hot 2 wear a jacket out today] it is getting chilly after the sun goes down and its also getting darker so much earlier.

I've had one E7 storage heater on for the last couple of days, on a low setting, to take the evening chill off the room.
  • Thanks Ken you learn something new every day.
