We haven't got ours on yet - still too warm in sunny Llandudno - OH is still wandering around in his shorts!. Our hot water system isn't very efficient however and warms the radiators upstairs so we have to turn them off but leave the bathrom one on so it's warm enough to dry the towel but not hot

Certainly not on here and not going on for the foerseeable either, although it was put on for an hour or 2 in Aug due to the rain, rain and er more rain but the radiators were utilised with the wet washing more than ever.........and I never told a soul! So embarrassed!

We're 600ft above sea level and have not put the heating on yet, I'm determined to last until the end of Oct at least! :D

We do have a portable gas heater which runs on butane for the living room, a large butane cylinder lasts us about 5 months and costs £20 we will just use the central heating to take the chill and the damp off the rest of the house later on, then use the heater in the living room for a couple of hours in the evening if needed. We don't see the point in heating the whole house all the time.

I have tested the CH a couple of times and the boiler is being serviced next week so fingers crossed it will be ok.
  • On the pretext of 'testing' the heating system I turned mine on at around 4.30. I had the thermostat/rads on high for the first hour but have now dropped the therm to 18c, the combi boiler to level 3 rather than 4 and the rads to number 2 rather than number 3. Wow the flat is nice and toasty!

I'll adjust the settings downwards in a little while and see how we go. Having read the various posts here I'll be wearing my thick cardy and socks this winter rather than having the heating on full blast and wearing t-shirts and shorts!

I've done quite well really as this time last year the heating went on at the beginning of September. Having rediscovered the winter cardi meant I could manage a little longer before turning the system on.

If this keeps up I really will have turned into my mother

  • Do you find using a portable gas heater it gives off a lot of condensation in the room?

I know what you mean Panda, I'm just drying stuff with the spare bedroom window open. I don't want to be putting on the heating just yet.

The only time it went on was when the gas man tested it..lol

Here in dark Kent, at the moment we have all the windows in the house wide open, and DH is sitting here in shorts and tshirt still, and I am still wearing my summer skirts etc.. And the summer duvet is still on the bed..lol I am hoping to last till end of October/beginning of November till I put it on. Although it does take forever to dry the washing indoors if its too wet to go outside..aaah!!!

We only use it for a couple of hours maximum and have never had a problem, it does say use in a well ventilated room though, here at draughty towers that's not a problem ;)

Not yet, no way I'm still boiling hot at night and have the windows open! OH gets colder than me and I normally have to give in to his pleas about putting the heating on, think we lasted out till November last year but not sure if I'll manage it this year!

still hot here too - windows wide open still (bring those daddy long legs in!!)

Cant believe anyone needs any heat at the moment
  • I feel the cold but still not putting my heating on,bad enough just paying the leccy bill - let alone for gas heating as well. The price hikes have made a difference to the way I use the elec/gas. Aiming for another month gas free!!!??
