Yes bit cold here over last couple of days, haven't put heating on though, much too cheap for that! I did put a fleecy duvet cover on my bed tohugh and am considering adding the winter part of the duvet or maybe just swap that for the summer one, its the dark mornings that are getting to me not the cold!

We still have windows open when we're in!!

Just had double glazing fitted (paid by Housing Assoc). So flat seems much warmer that normal anyway. :)

We just put another jumper on. Unfortunately our only form of heating is a coal fire. So it is either all or nothing. I am trying not to light it until november at the earliest. Then i wait until about 3 as there is only me in through the day. My OH always says i should light it earlier but i think it is a wastejust for me.
Don't know if coal prices have gone up this year. Think i was paying about £9.00 a bag in january. Wonder how much it is every where else.

We have just spent last week (with the help of a CORGI installer!) removing the old warm air heating & installing a new boiler & rads in our house.

It was finished on Saturday morning & given a trial run then...bliss

Has been switched off since though;)
  • With gas prices so high, is it time to heat domestic water by electricity instead of gas? I'm thinking about during the summer when the central heating is off, but the gas boiler is on only to heat the water. In the past the answer was always use gas, but is this still true?

Gas is still about one quarter of the cost of electricity. A gas boiler is still the most cost effective way of heating your water.

Agree there Espresso, my next boiler will be combi.
Unless there is a use for all or most of the water in a cylinder, just a waste heating it up to cool down again.

I was thinking the same thing about using the emersion to heat the water in the summer months , I keep thinking too what a waste as the hot water is only used for 2 showers per day and if I do some washing which is maybe 2 or 3 times per week the rest of the time the water is just left to cool down all day and then heated again in the evening..

Our boiler works fine but I wonder if even with the expense of changing it to a combi it would be a moneysaving expense ? if you get my meaning....
