 I don't think I could cope with the heating on for 5 hours straight. It'll be an hour at a time max here. The timers broken too so if you set anything to come on it doesn't turn itself off anymoreso I suspect it will hardly get used this year. Unfortunately it seems pretty inefficient
but its not my house so not worth replacing it and I don't fancy going under the house to fiddle with it either - too many spiders. Think I'll just use my little 400w halogen heater in the room we are in for the odd hour here and there. Should cost around 4p an hour and I wrekon my inefficient central heating costs something like 40p an hour, not sure if my calculations are correct thou - I'll have to do some more tests.

My evening settings are 5.40pm to 10pm. I tend to go to bed between 11.30-midnight (or later) so I figure these are good timings. I might change it to a 9.30 turn-off so I'm forced to get into bed earlier though. I tend to potter about for no reason til all hours then can't get up in the morning!

There was almost a frost outside my flat this morning, but even with the window slightly open it didn't feel cold. I think these flats are well insultated (aka insulated).Happy chappy0

Me too.
The timer is now set to come on at 5.30am and turns off again at 8.30am as were all out of the door at different time from 6.30 onwards. It doesn't come on again till 5.00pm then off at 10.30pm. All thermostatic valves are set low and hopefully should save a bit of money this winter as both kids are now at school so no useage during the day (unless I get really cold).Rebel No 220 -
I noticed a slight chill in the flat this evening, so I closed all the windows and put a jacket on. It's going to be a while until heating is needed I think.Happy chappy0

I've got a rule now, no heating on unless everyone is wearing a jumper, socks, slippers and using a throw (I knitted loads for the settees!):)0

I haven't had my heating switched off this year
The time clock is set to 24hour, and the heating works through the stat in the hall, switching itself off for several months at a time.
The past week it has came on a couple of times, and went back off less than 30 mins later.
ps my hot water is on constantly- there is a clyinder stat that keeps it off when the water has reached temperature, ie it only comes on to top the temperature up when we draw water. And the cylinder has a moulded jacket on it.
My gas bill? £35 per month- even after rises (2 bed semi - gas CH & HW and hob)baldly going on...0 -
Thanks for the replies, I'm still reading this thread! Tom, you aren't too far from me and it is c-c-c-old. I've still not put the heating on and just wrap myself in a duvet to keep warm. I wonder who will cave in first?0
