ok so baasically a few points to SOA:
it syas I have 5k left over a month.. I need to start writing down everything we spend because that isn't reality
also the whole phone/internet/cable thing is consolidated into my 114/mnth
Plus travel is high because I go to visit my elderly mother in America often.
Live in Housekeeper: Seems extrav but both myself and OH are out of the country at least 1 week a month on business. Myself more than my partner and we have 3 little dogs who need walked and fed etc.
last year your SOA showed you had £7500 over at the end of the month , yet your debt increased ?
have you included all your travel expenses in your SOA because you seem to be digging a bigger holeVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

Having a diary is something that keeps you on track and does address the problems of over-spending. For many of us, just committing to 'paper' and watching our progress over the months is the motivation we need. Also each of us has to do it our own way, one size does not fit all. There are family, home and even pets to consider.
...and talking of pets. Lucielle was buying something to stop her DS's dog barking very recently. Pop over to her diary and have look.

By restarting the diary, NL has already begun to address the problem in my opinion. It may take a while to work through the rights , the wrongs, the budgets, where the so called surpus cash is actually going etc, but everyones situation is different and we all deal with it in our own ways. This is certainly a step in the right direction and it will be interesting to support and watch NL's progress along the way. The beauty of this board is that the more you read the more you realise how our situations, lifestyles, income etc are all so very different , but we all have one common goal which is to reduce the debt ( it doesn"t matter how it got there inthe first place) and ultimately .........be happy .

It really is true, we're all going in the same direction. Bigger incomes sometimes just mean bigger debts. The realisation and desire to tackle it is the important thing.
Keep up the good work NewLeaf, I used to live close to a Waitrose and it was such a temptation, they have beautiful produce - at ugly prices! I used to be a food label snob, never buy own brand and shudder the thought of the economy version. But a lot of it is actually fine and now I recent paying a premium for a colour label when a white one will do just the same (iyswim) But of course it is finding a level that you are comfortable with and that works for you.- Mortgage over-payments to date: = £16,746
