No Spend Day today and did 5k steps which is an accomplishment for me.

I received the anti bark device already today, so far seems to have little effect :(

    Hi NL

I have just been catching up with your diary and see that you are having some trouble with your dogs barking. I don't know whether it will help but I have a friend who was having trouble with her dog barking while she and her OH were at work and the neighbours were complaining so she took her dog to a dog psychologist (yes, apparently they do exist).

Apparently, the problem was that she was leaving her dog to run around in quite a large back garden and because of this her dog felt insecure and vulnerable. Therefore, the dog psychologist suggested that they build a kennel and a small pen for her dog to run around in. Sounded a bit mean to me at the time but apparently it worked. Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

    Hi Dolphin,

Thanks for the advice and interest. I live in a terraced house in London and there is someone at home all the time. They get wound up by weird street noise, the post or someone knocking on the door.

    Hi NL

Ah ok, I suspect there's not much you can do to keep them calm then as there's probably a hive of activity all the time. Difficult one. Good luck with coming up with a solution.

    Hi there

Sounds like you're making progress NL. Well done..I know we hijacked your diary but was giggling about the sun loungers..what would it be like if we all got together in real life??!! Rowdy I'd bet!

NY hours..now that's a challenge! But as you say good for getting the spends down..unless you shop on the tinternet;) that is bad news for me..especially one click on Amazon..fatal:o

The dogs sound tricky but agree maybe a behaviourist would be helpful. I am sure your vet could recommend one.

    Well done on the NSD!

Ok dog update: After 1 day of what I now refer to as "the barkinator" the dogs are much quieter but scared out of their wits and don't want to go downstairs. I called a dog behaviourist £190 a session of 50 minutes!

Weight news: down a stone since 8 March. Still a whopping 13.4 so long way to go

E*ay news: 3 items will sell for a large total of £6.20 . 2 more days to go so fingers crossed.

I work with a lady I could call Miss Maloprop. She is driving me batty. I think I will start posting a daily one for you all. Obviously she is American like me so we work with a limited vocabulary (ha!)

She is also from California which explains much.

Yesterday: Barry won't be in this week, he has ammonia.
I said " do you mean Pneumonia?" and she said "ummm (my name) AMMONIA, like when your chest fills up with goo?!"

Ammonia :rotfl::rotfl:love it! Yes please to a daily Mrs Maloprop.

Same for me on e*bay, one item sold for £1.06! I have five items on at the moment, with twelve watchers and one bid for 99p....I am going to soldier on. 100 items at a pound does equal £100.

I've joined Dragons lose 7lb in April thread, it's on the health and beauty forum. I think it's less daunting to think in small chunks! Come and join in. No idea how to do a link but it's called Avoiding Easter Eggs in April (we 7lbers will NOT succumb!)

    Hi there NewLeaf

I just stumbled across your diary after recognising your name from HappyNow's diary. Glad you got it going again and welcome back!

When I was a child, our dog used to bark excessively at the postie too and evidently it's a difficult behaviour to stop. The postie arrives, the dog barks, the postie goes away, every single time the dog's behaviour is reinforced 'cos it thinks it was the barking that got rid of the postie. And it happens once and sometimes twice a day. Our dog was worried about strangers in general coming to the house and we (my mum and dad and us 3 kids) had to work with him inside and outside our home, on and off the lead, learning how to manage him and building our relationship with him. Then we tackled the actual postie problem. It involved lots of repitition of one person, then another, arriving with treats for him, over and over and over, and us knowing what to do to help him calm down. A dog behaviourist would help but you'd have to make sure your OH and housekeeper were involved in the training too so they could keep it going when you and your OH are away. Our dog seemed loads happier once he knew he wasn't in charge of our 'pack' anymore. I think he was a lot like my dad and just wanted to be told what to do!:rotfl:

I haven't remembered all that for a long time! And I'm a cat person now. On the verge of buying Feliway 'cos they're fighting with each other...Pets, you've gotta love them!

Best of luck with your DFW journey. I so agree that it's a total change in thinking from spender to saver. And the size of debt matters little. If you can't pay it, it's a problem!

I'm off to subscribe. See you around. ;)
