    Brilliant! Loving the malaprops! :rotfl:

My wee brother came home from school one day (many, many years ago) saying 'I wish I was electric to milk, cos if you're electric to milk you get to drink juice at break.' Bless! Obviously he meant allergic, and being 5 years old it was totally excusable. Wonder what your workmate's excuse is for being so daft?! :D

I've seen Ani 4 times now and she's been fab every time. I love the atmosphere at her gigs. All womany good feeling.

My sister lives in the states near Baltimore. I've been there a few times for holidays and visited NY, Washington and Baltimore. How come you decided to move here? My sis moved to be with her partner and I totally supported her decision. What an exciting adventure living in another country. But our family were all freaking out saying 'they have GUNS over there...GUNS...are you mad!' :rotfl:Clearly it's not as dangerous as everyone thought as she's still alive after 12 or so years there. :rotfl:That's what's so fantastic about travel, I think. It blows away all those preconceived ideas.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling on. Hope your debt busting is all going well. :)

Hi Ani Fan, I moved over here to be with my partner as well. You have civil partnership in thr UK and I couldn't get my partner a Visa foe the US, where we would prefer to live since I have an elderly mother who I would really live to live near. That is why the travel budget is so high, I go to visit her often and thankfully I travel loads to America for work to either NY or DC which is an easy drive to my Mom's.

I understand how your parents feel about GUNS, I don't agree with citizens having guns either, but I wonder if the police shouldn't be better protected here.

Yes, civil partnership has had a major positive impact on immigration for couples who want to be together. Wonder if there's any chance of something similar in the states any time soon? I know it happens in one state but can't remember which one. Not that me and OH had that problem. We grew up about 15 miles away from each other but didn't meet until our early 30s. And our civil partnership was just lovely. :D

    I'm disappointed.
I thought this really was a thread about being 40 and foolish.
Instead I got a balance sheet.
When I was 40 and foolish I sold up and travelled round Africa for a year.
Now that's what I call 'foolish'.
Would I do it in these financial times? Perhaps not but I hope so - I wouldn't like to think that we have lost the capacity for adventure or taking a chance. There's something to be said for not always being Mr or Mrs Sensible. If you never take your feet off the ground you may never see the hills or the sky or the endless possibilities. You're a long time dead.

we have lots of states that have it but immigration is a federal law so can't immigrate yet. I do believe it is a long way off. x

Hi Pineapple. Well I am now 42, haven't lived without adventure for sure! I left my home country, sold my house and everything to move to the UK for love. Last year I went to Alaska and the Yukon Territory for 2 weeks. I have 2 advanced degrees and work in a complex financial environment.

So I guess the foolish part is this: I aim to pay off my house and all the bills so I can do something more meaningful with my life and devote myself full time to volunteerism.

    Enjoy!

Pineapple..is this just dripping with irony or...? Either way I am not sure so hope I am not reading something that is not supportive of New Leaf and what she has decided to do so that she has a better quality of life.

Yes, foolish to waste money on things she didn't want or need (in the past)..but we are all guilty of that. The trick now is to make sure that every spend adds to your life in some way, enriches it and doesnt take away.

Adventure does not have to mean selling up and travelling around for a year....in fact these days thats rather conventional I would say..

i remember visiting a friend in Ohio, they too had lots of guns, we went to one of the neighbours houses and he had a huge cupboard ( walk in cupboard) full of guns and cross bows .... the thing i found hilarious was the fact that fireworks were illegal for them .... it still tickles my funny bone lol

actually that is so true, and Ohio has a law where you can have a concealed carry permit. I mean why in G*d's name does anyone need to hide a gun on their person?
