    Hello Newleaf

Good to see you are making progress, :) hopefully the locksmith has done his stuff by now and your home is secure again.
Can you get the washer-repair man's mobile number from his dispatcher? Then you could give him a ring and find out how far down his list you are, which would be less frustrating than simply waiting..

I've been thinking about the person who caused you the hassle of needing your locks changed: It is odd that she 'phoned you to confess - I wonder if this is a plea for help? If she has mental health problems or 'a habit', you probably stand a better chance of getting back the stuff she stole if you do not cut her off completely (while protecting yourself of course).. You know her; is/was she a good enough friend to invest more time and energy in, or would it be better for you to write off the loss and move on?

  • I was thinking the same thing about the friend Robin.

NL - Do you think you could summon up your inner social worker and try to help her work through her problems? As RB said, maybe point her to MSE and CCCS, or CAB to get help with budgeting. Does she have a drink problem too? Maybe a long, frank conversation will help her realise how much she hurt you but that you're still willing to help her get her life back on track? Might be your best chance to get your money back (both the loan and the stolen money, and maybe also the cost of the locks) and would give you a wee 'project' to work on (like you have so much free time!) ;)

Also, if the locksmith hasn't been yet, could you maybe ask him about just changing the barrels rather than the whole locks? This would give you new keys, without any of the hassle and expense of the fitting of completely new housings. Probably too late - sorry, I haven't been online much last two days.

Hi Robin and GB. I got her son in Rehab for Heroin (which he skipped out on after 8 days). I gave him work decorating my house. I have taken her to doctor's appointments and hospitals. I sold her my old Honda for £500 which I let her pay me over a year, and recently I paid off her overdue phone bill (£230) and lent her £1200. When she had her old car I used to go over there and jump her battery all the time. I have also done both her and her son's CV's.

I think I am about all used up with her.

On to the laundry front, they texted me at 2 to tell me the tech would be here between 3 and 5. Still no sight of him.

  • Yikes! I think from the sound of that you've given her plenty of help already. Probably best to step back at this point, as you're already decided to do. Some people just can't be helped.

But just as a side point... giving out loans to people with no expectation of getting them back?? really??

Remember way back when you posted your SoA and said you needed to work out where the rest of the monthly income was going? I guess it's time to take a bit of step back and look a little more objectively at your situation.

Why are you busting your ask* to save everything that you can and struggling to pay off THEM and then giving your cash away with no expectation of having it returned?

Consider this a 'kick up the ask*' madam. It's fine to be generous, with time, advice, whatever... but not to your own cost when you're in your own little MSE battle.

    [/nagging]

*This is not a typo, but a re-use of the word coined by a very cute little girl on the Ellen DeGeneres show video who is gonna 'kick your ask' :rotfl:

Hmmm, I think the friendship is all used up. Time to move away from it mentally. She will just drain you emotionally. You're too kind for your own good!

Well it sounds to me that whilst you friend is in an awful situation in her life, you have done more than most. Much as I'm sure its difficult, you really do have to walk away before she hurts you too badly.

Yey to date with Ariel, :rotfl: at "it isn't working"
