    Ok deep breath
Write letter correcting THEM copy collections and main bit explain someone was trying to increase the DD without your consent
    Speak to accountant
Consider setting up bank account for just this and revert to DD for an easy life?

Could you tackle this by 'phone initially? Record the call if possible, summarise the results and post that to THEM to confirm the new arrangement.
'Phoning should get your name off the collections list faster.
Missir's suggestion to open a new bank account for THEIR payments is a great idea - but do it before 'phoning THEM so the details are to hand.

I suspect that you'll get a much better reaction from THEM if you volunteer to reinstate the DD, and ask for a three year payment plan (- think that's the max length possible).

It seems to me, it's out of NL's hands, if it has gone to collections?

I advised you before, to open a new bank account containing a limited amount of funds.

You owe a substantial amount of income tax, and it will be taken back, regardless.

The K code means you will pay more income tax on next years earnings, as you've been underpaying, previous years, i.e. to stop this happening again?

Has your accountant done anything to reduce your tax liability? i.e. with the " benefits in kind?"

Only you and your accountant can work out what you should be paying, but even then, you have to convince THEM.

It's hypothetical to an outsider, so my advice is hypothetical, also.

It's almost impossible to give advice on the internet, without sitting down with you and seeing your accounts.

Aha. Bet that's why you've been referred.. :(

THEY do like to see "DD" ticked as method of payment.

I doubt that's the reason it has been referred to collections, unfortunately.

It would appear, THEY have taken control of the situation.

Hi Robin and Fred and Wlma!

I have just come back from the bank opening an account to just pay THEM via DD

F&W my accountant has actually done quite a bit for me to help get my taxable income down like having me do "salary sacrifice" etc. I am doing all I can to get rid of the tax and if THEY will let me go on a 3 years to pay plan I will try that.

    Thanks for all the advice

I also decided last night to sell my David Yurman jewellery. All but one bracelet. That combined with the stock sale I did from the US (which should hit my account next week) will kill of the majority of the tax. It was a gift from my late grandmother so I feel the need to keep one piece

WOW you have made great leaps. Hopefully that will stop them being so icky. So sorry you have to part with inherited items, however if the balance of matters means this is the right decision I applaud you for having the courage and guts to do this.
