Generally when stating something in jest a smilie (:D) is used so as to prevent misinterpretation. Obviously you are unaware of this fact as two regular posters to this thread both interpreted your comments as derogartory. Congratulations on your R&R, i do hope you get many hours of pleasure out of it.
Regards free speech, i said that i felt that you overstepped the mark, not that you couldnt post your comments, no contradiction there.
Before you comment on how tesco make more profit from overcharges, please understand how the system works.....read the threads, the reasons that it is not straightforwards are in there.
You are correct you did not refer to me as a troll, it was some of the other posters.
My comment reference D@@@@istan was supposed to be 'tongue in cheek', but I accept the written word (without facial expression/tone of voice) can be misunderstood.
Therefore going forward I will try and chose words/expressions more carefully.
I think this is a good thread, so I don't want it shut down either.0 -
spa2k wrote:If an sel shows a price then that price should be reflective of the charge made at the point of purchase, if it is not then it is illegal and an overcharge regardless of any dates that may be on the label or pos.
No arguments, no wriggling, simply fact.
The debate on this seems to have been rumbling on for some time, so earlier today I rang Trading Standards. To put their reply into context I didn't mention Tesco or their specific R&R policy but asked if I could talk in general terms about pricing and refunds. As always after you've hung up you wish you'd probed a bit more so if anyone else wants to ring them and be a bit more specific it might be interesting to compare responses. Remember I'm only repeating what I was told, so debate and discuss by all means but don't shoot the messenger:)
First I asked what was the situation if something was marked at £10 but scanned at £20 at the till? - If the transaction completes and you pay £20 the retailer is not obliged to make any refund and you have no comeback in civil law. However, TS would take a dim view of the mispricing and if it was reported may investigate it with the retailer possibly leading to a fine.
Next, what about price tickets that display old price (crossed out), offer price, and offer expiry date.? - Same answer as above but TS would expect all print to be clear and legible. Offer expiry dates in small print are not. Again a potential fine.
What if they were left up after expiry date? - Same again. The price is negotiated at the till but the label in misleading.
Is an advertised refund policy binding? - He was less confident about this and put me on hold for a few minutes. - The reply, No it's not, but he did recommend that anyone refused a refund take it to as high a level as possible. But, if a company advertises such a policy and doesn't comply the could be reported and possibly fined for misleading advertising.
Well, there we are, that's as far as i took the conversation, take from this what you wish. :rotfl:0 -

I guess this would depend on the individuals interpretation of small, what may appear to be small print to one may appear to not be small to another person. Shame as i feel that more clarification is needed around this particular one as it is a subject often debated.
Well done though park ranger!!:TFight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

My job involves me working with a number of different groups of people and there has actually been guidance produced. Unfortunately though, as far as I'm aware it's not actually enforceable in its own right. It would have to be done through other legislation.
Just so we don't go too far off topic the expiry date on SELs do not conform to the guidance, but it's unfair to single out T, most others are guilty too:(0 -
I noticed this evening, that the new Yellow SEL's on the alcohol aisle, have NO expiry date:eek:
What are we gonna do now????Sig ah Sig Ahhh0 -

As some of you may be aware I'm currently preparing a claim for damages against Tesco for defamation of character. It relates to the whole R+R thing and the way that some managers have said my R+Ring is criminal/fraudulent etc, have demanded my name and address, told me I'd been caught on CCTV, and said all this info would be "circulated", etc, etc. (I take great offence at being falsely accused of breaking the law by a company that actually does break the law, day in, day out).
To try and find out exactly what they've been "circulating" about me I posted off my cheque for £10 to Head Office to ask for a copy of all info the company holds about me, as per my legal rights to see this info under the Data Protection Act.
I've had a letter back off their legal team asking that I supply details of which stores I've visited, together with dates and times.
Now hang on a minute. Surely the whole point of my request is that I'm asking them to give me this information.
All stores are part of the same company, so isn't it sufficient for me to just supply my name and address and tell them to get off their backsides and trawl all the managers' PCs, PDAs, mobile phones, diaries, filofaxes, notice boards and CCTV systems from all 1900 stores? I have no wish to assist them in this process. If their company has grown so big that they can't keep tabs on what happens in each store, then that's hardly my fault, is it?
Does anyone know if I'm under some kind of legal obligation to supply them with stores visited + dates + times in order for them to process my request under the DPA? Or am I right in thinking that my name and address is all they should be given?
Be as specific as you can it will help them, in my case for instance I would simply state
I do my shopping 24hrs
I have shopped in all your stores on the M4/M5/M6 and M1 corridors
The period my request covers 01/06/2006 - 13/10/2006
My request refers to a FULL and COMPLETE data search
The clock is ticking and your wasting time.

I was in the Exmouth store this morning. I'm vegetarian, so I can't help with the meat opportunities you have posted. I saw they had the old SEL with Fosters packs of 4 cans, 2 for £6.00, which would have been an easy R&R, but I don't drink it and didn't want to carry it around all day. I did check the 12 can pack of Kronenberg 1664, which had an out of date SEL for £9.29, but it scanned at this price. I also saw the Vax spill buster with the out of date SEL, but I've read that it still scans at the offer price, so I didn't check it. I did check Tetley Tea Bags, SEL £3.28, but flashed on pack £2.99. These scanned at £2.99. Also, the Gillette Fusion stand had no SEL for the razor with two blades and incidentally, this has an SEL for £7.27 in Express stores and scans at this price, despite the fact that people report that it scans at £7.49 in proper stores.
