Just so people can get more accurate information in regards to Television Licences
Eager_Elephant - u mention about £1000 fine, tvl always advertise this but i have never heard or read anywhere anyone getting this much its usually in the region of £250 as no-one could pay £1000, certainly not the very low paid or people on benefits.
Otherwise there would be a sizable amount of people in prison from not paying their court fines, and we only have 700 prison places left at a cost at £38,000 per year to the british tax payer to house just ONE inmate.
TVL simply put this figure to FRIGHTEN people into paying; amongst their monthly threatening correspondence to the Legal Occupier.
There are many features on aTelevision set which are NOTHING to do with watching
LIVE Television Broadcasts.
You only need to have a TV licence if you intend to use your TV to receive "LIVE" BROADCASTS.
You do NOT need a licence for just owning a TV!!
You do NOT need a licence if you want to watch pre-recorded DVD/video movies etc etc
If you use your TV for games consoles such as Xbox, PS2 etc etc, AGAIN; you do NOT need a licence as its nothing to do with watching LIVE television broadcasts.
For broadband TV use please see below.
There are numerous websites who are working together for the abolishment of TV Licences, and "BBC Resistance" is one of them you can do a search for them.
The BBC Resistance site will give you the above information in detail, of what you need a licence for and details of your rights; in case of a TV Licence Enforcement Officer turns up.My Signature is MY OWN!!0 -

Only the ill informed get cought (knowledge is power). The only way they can do something is with proof like letting them into your house or speaking to them. These people are just salepeople who make commision nothing moreEager_Elephant wrote:In July they seemed to have had a crackdown in my town and so many people got caught - the fines were about £160.
And most like I said are ill informed single parents and low income familes it must make the licence fee supporters feel proudEager_Elephant wrote:I
If you got this fine and you were on benefits they can apply to take it directly out of your benefit so you would be worse off each week anyway.
Yes alot are on benefits so they shouldn't have a right to watch television unless they have paid for the mighty BBCEager_Elephant wrote:I
The Cash Easy Entry scheme is good although when you start it is about £5.00 per week and then once you are in advance for the next licence your payments drop to £2.50pw which is much more manageable.

The best option is not to pay them and thats my choice I have never paid & its been 18yrs now. Why should I subsidise for others to watch television thats entertainment at the end of the day0 -

Yes but don't knock yourself too hard for making an off topic and uncontructive post0 -

TVL have far more powers than they ought to. Certainly they have more power than your average milkman. It should not be neccessary for people to find loopholes to avoid being threatened with search warrants and eventually even jail. The TVL should not have those options available to them in the first place. They are inappropriate, disproportionate and should have been repealed years ago.
they can only get search warrant if they have evidence to apply for the court search warrant
you only go to jail if TVL take you to court and you lose your case and the court issues you a fine, usually in the region of around £250 NOT £1000 - see my previous post.
Its only if you dont pay this court issued fine, that the Court can put you in prison, which is the same for any type of court issued fine. Please see my previous post for a good website where you can obtain the right information, help, support and advice. My Signature is MY OWN!!0 -

Or subcription but the problem is those who work for the BBC or enjoy it expect everyone to subsidise them.
The BBC have also conned the British public on purpose in fact the ex director general admitted itGreg Dyke has confirmed suspicions in the commercial sector that he launched the digital terrestrial TV service, Freeview, as a way of delaying the day the licence fee would be scrapped.
The former BBC director general reckoned that if millions of homes were hooked up to Freeview, the move to turn the BBC into a subscription service could be prevented.
This is because under Mr Dyke's original plans the Freeview service would be a Trojan horse, offering free channels exclusively with no means of collecting subscription fees.Mr Dyke admits for the first time that part of the rationale behind the launch of the digital terrestrial service was to flood the market with "dumb" boxes incapable of turning the BBC's channels into "pay as you go" services at a later date.

some people i know who have freeview boxes say they have problems witht he transmissions and bbc parlimentary is only shown in small screen and not full screen.
and someone said to me yesterday that his transmissinos kept being cut off so now he has gone to NTL instead and doesn't get those kinds of problems anymore and the quality but unfortuantely the bbc active (red button) feature doesn't work on the sports multiscreen for ntl but does on sky.My Signature is MY OWN!!0
