I like BBC television, I watch very little on other channels. For about £3 a week I see some amazing and entetaining stuff. Any of you been to America or Canada and watched TV? Takes about 3 hours to watch a film lasting 90 mins because there is an advert break every 15 minutes or so. Long live advert free TV even if it does cost £3 a week.
I've seen this type of post before by BBC employee's and its always the same style, its always ME, ME, ME & ME. £3 a week gives me more channels and a phoneline with free calls (Cable) so beat that. You love the BBC so much because you have millions of people being forced to subsidise you0 -

If I pay the same as everyone else then how am I being subsidised? Neither do I work for the BBC.0 -

Simple really from your last post your either a big fan & watch it allot or work for them however many can do without so they end up subsidising your entertainment0 -
I used to hate paying the licence fee, as we have the full sky monty package, and very rarely dip into terrestrial land. However I realised the other day that every time I got in the car I put a BBC radio station on. I also tend to check the BBC website daily for sporting and world news. I also found a Spanish Language course on there.....which was fun...I still can't speak it...but was fun. Then I noticed that some of the programmes I tend to watch before bed on one of the satellite repeat channels....UKTVREPEATS etc like Red Dwarf, The Office, Alan Partridge, 2 pints all come from the BBC
So to be honest I think the licence fee stretches to more than BBC1 & 2 and I guess it's nice to still have a TV provider that still makes programmes that are not governed by advertisers.
Commercial TV seems to be full of I am a Fat club Celebrity watch me sing and dance and phone vote for me get me out of here brother. TV which is the worst kind of drivel.
Even the premium channels Sky 1 etc that used to have the programmes I loved, have seen programmes pulled mid season because of advertisers pressures in the US e.g. Angel which was cancelled mid season, and dead like me, and Enterprise
If all TV gives into the what makes money culture we will end up with cheap reality TV all the time
So what I am saying is, take a look at anything relating to the Beeb from Radio to TV to web, and ask yourself is it worth the money?
If don't have to have a TV, if you can not afford the licence fee, but they will still allow you to enjoy the radio and their websites0 -

In a word, Yes.
shame I never stop at one word!!
People who are earning 50K a year probably don't watch as much TV as ,say,a housebound OAP who is at home all day tuning into Kilroy or whatever it is that's on the box during the day now.So maybe they should pay less?:p
Not a road I'd want to go down, pay as you view. It would penalise those stuck at home outwith their choice.
sorry, but a TV isn't essential , coming from someone with in excess of 3000 posts, I doubt very much you're sitting in a library typing away.Certianly not at 3:23am!!
You could get rid of your internet connection to pay for the TV licence?
Walk the kids to school to save on bus fares?
Try and find a way to get your income back up again?
It's a compulsory tax for anyone who watches telly, and I don't think it's wise to risk a fine that's in excess of a year's TV licence.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Is it worth £4 billion a year hmm NOIf don't have to have a TV, if you can not afford the licence fee, but they will still allow you to enjoy the radio and their websites
You know thats really nice of you to allow people this :rolleyes:0 -

I think it's questionable to encourage someone on a low income to risk having to pay a lot of money in a fine.Just my humble tuppenceworth.
Maybe we are law abiding citizens, and willing to pay our share of the service we are ALL meant to pay for.and susidise those who don't.
I'll not lower my standards to call those folk who let others pay their share scumbags.....
that's it,though, my last meal for the trolls for today.:pMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
