Hi all,
Im on one of my rants here. . so I apologise in advance
But im being persued by the TVLA becuse Ive fallen behind with my payments.
Not becuse I wanted to, simply becuse of a change in income...
My priority lies with my rent and keeping food on the table for my children... gas electicity etc..
I dont see my TV as a priority debit, when Im down to my last 5.00 , , and I need to pay my childrens bus fares
HOWEVER is it fair, that those in receipt of benefits , should pay exactly the same licence fee as those people on
20k 30k 50k or more
My question is why ..............am I treat in a different way, becuse im in receipt of benefit
.. When I call , anywhere, as soon as they realise I receive benefit, their "tone" changes, as though im basicly a scrounger,
The housing benifit office in my area is the worst..
Anyone else feel this way..............
Rant over,,:p
Thanks for reading

I suppose it's because nobody HAS to have a television.
Hope things are better for you soon.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
This website is fab for rants Mandi...especially at this time of the morning...funny how thats when all these things pop into our heads isn't it.

I am becoming more and more convinced of the opinion that those who scam money out of the benefits system are actually completely bonkers. It takes so much effort!! I put in a claim for IS in July, and have still only received three weeks' worth of payment. That's really not much recompense for the amount of time, effort, energy and frustration it has cost me. I'd rather have been well enough to work, quite frankly. I still find it amazing that people can falsely claim benefits; I'm entitled to mine and they still won't bloody pay me properly.
ARGH!
However, imo it's fair that we all pay the same TV license fee. 1) TV's not a necessity, and 2) we all pay the same price for our groceries/phone bills/petrol... Seems logical that we pay the same TV license fee too.0 -
TV Licences should not be means tested. People who cannot afford the fee should consider not owning a telly. Though in my opinion the licence fee itself is wrong.0

I cannot see any justification for people on benefits to get any kind of discount on the licence fee. As others have said, TV is a luxury item and not one essencial for life and therefore if you cant afford the fees then sell the TV.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I agree with the PP's, TV is a luxury and not a necessity.
However, would this help?

Should people who earn more also pay more for their food?
You don't have to have the TV license.Disclaimer: Any spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar is purely coincidental and in no way reflects the intelligence of the author.0 -
It's people who earn less that pay more for their food as they can't afford to bulk buy or buy large items that costs less.JohnInDebt wrote:Should people who earn more also pay more for their food?
Re TV licences, TV licensing.....if you are over 74, you can apply for a Short Term Licence, which will cover you until the month you turn 75, at this point you become entitled to a free Over 75 Licence. If you are blind, you can apply for a Blind Concessionary Licence at 50% of the full licence fee. And if you live in residential care, you may qualify for a licence at £5 per year.
I think free or cheaper licences should be available at pension age.Torgwen..........

Why should you be charged less than anybody else?
I live alone, does that mean I should be charged less than a household of four?
I barely watch TV, can I not pay my License on a per hour basis?Gone ... or have I?0 -
You way of thinking could apply to hundreds of things......
I am on benefits so....
Why should I pay full price for car tax - insurance - clothes - a new washing machine etc.0
