big debts / big plans - would welcome some moral support

Options
Well, I never thought it would happen, but after stumbling across this site last week, I have decided to finally take action and face up to my ever increasing debts.

There, I've said it! And you're all my witnesses, so there's no going back!

I have accumulated some absolutely pointless debts, the type where you don't seem to even have anything material to show for them, and I would love some advice and support to make a change NOW!

The defining moment for me was when I dished out beans on toast for the kids again tonight (hence the name) and I realised I wanted so much more for them

I have a lot on my plate with other events in my life, but the debts and the feelings wrapped up in them are haunting my every decision

I am in a bad situation, particularly as my husband is not at all aware of the debts (apart from one which totals £13000:eek: which I am paying off slowly.

I, therefore, only have a very small amount of money to use when haggling with debt companies as he simply cannot be aware of the debts

I know you are all probably crying out "tell him!! he will understand" ... but he won't. I created these alone (through sheer stupidity) so I must resolve them alone ... that is, unless some of you lovely people are able to offer any advice and support.

You are all an inspiration and it is so nice knowing there are other people out there making the decision to improve their lives after logging on to this site

I will attempt to roughly count up my debt total tonight and post back, I just had to start this thread immediately else I may have wandered back into the kitchen and lost my momentum.......

Sorry this is soo long!

  • Hi beans and toast! (love the name)

Welcome to mse, you have done a great thing in posting here tonight. So well done you!:T

Firstly yes you will need to let us know who/how much you owe monies too.

Then if you can a list of how much disposable income you have to throw at these debts.

Please don't panic too much, lots of people on these boards are great at giving advice. I know it's very daunting when you first put your mind too, adding up the sums, but trust me it will be worth.

So while your in the momentum, go grab a pen, and some statements, switch the kettle on, and getting listing, EVERYTHING!!;)

Will pop back a little later to see how you doing.:D

    Hugs for now,
    pot

    Hey Beans'

Just wanted to say welcome to the party :)

Like others before me, have a cuppa, get out some statements and tot it up!
Its a scary process but you will be SO thankful in the end.

And echoing other people, list all the seperate debts and there APR's and minimum payments, then your expenditure per month on things like food, utilities etc!

Try not to worry, there are hundreds of ultra helpful and super supportive people here on this forum (I like to think of myself as one of them!) and we're always here with support and ideas!
