If you upgrade to Sky+ and multiroom, I know that you have to keep the Sky+ box plugged into a telephone line for a year but do you have to do the same for the multiroom box? I am worried about how many things are plugged into the phone line: 3 phones, 1 fax plus 2 x Sky and broadband.

Unfortunately, yes you do, see here.
• If you are good at remembering to do stuff you don't need to leave it plugged in all the time. You can use the engineer's menus to force a dial back. I do this every week.

Hi Smokie

Thanks

Hi everyone.

We've been with sky for about 6 or 7 years.

Fourteen months ago, as a wedding gift from a friend, we upgraded to sky+ and multiroom (we had to get a new box as the old one wouldn't work properly in the bedroom!!).

This week, the new sky box in the bedroom has completely packed up. Will not work. No reason. Just dead.

My husband called them and they offered us either £65 for an engineer to come out and have a look or ???!!!! howabout this - £45 for a new box. Surely they should be lasting longer than 14 months these days?

Needless to say I am furious with them.

I would've got on the phone immediately and told them to stuff it and take the stuff away but we renewed our contract in February this year when we moved house.

Thinking of buying cheap/second hand box now.
What do you reckon?

Cheers

That's rubbish. Try a strongly worded email to James Murdoch - the equipment should be lasting longer than that. They have been known to waive engineer's fees if you kick up a stink, so make one!
• My father got a free engineer visit to fix a faulty dish after about 16 months, when he wrote a long complaint letter to the director of customer services.
Keep the right company because life's a limited business.
• I currently pay £43-50 for sports and movie package. I've been with SKY for about 5 years nows and have never had a deal or anything. I have found this site and it looks like I've been missing out. I'd like multiroom and see I have to pay an extra £10 a month as well as the £43-50. Any advice on what I should do to get a discount and/or multiroom?
