Hi Icey,,,,I cook whole chickens and the meat and skin falls straight off.
Then I scrape off the rest, give the cat the rubbish. No problems.

I want to try making a chicken casserole in my medium sized slow cooker but DH is a fussy !!!!!! and won't eat chicken on the bone - could I use boned chicken thighs instead?

Will they work ok or would I be able to use bone in chicken thighs and take out the bones afterwards, is that easy to do?

    Thanks x

They will work fine - I think you can buy boned thighs from most supermarkets. Just be aware they will get to the falling apart stage quicker than those with bones.
  • Hi all,

I've been wondering if I can braise red cabbage in the slow cooker? Does anyone else do this or have any ideas how to adapt a recipe? Since you don't add much liquid anyway I wondering whether I could just chuck it all in and leave until done, say 5 or 6 hours on high? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

musicgirl, there's a thread here re red cabbage - you'll see that many posters say that you can use the SC - braise until tender - there are quite a lot of posts & many different recipes :)

    Hi all,

I put a spag bol in the slow cooker last night before I went to bed, in the hope of taking some with me to work today for my lunch.

Silly !!!!!! that I am, iv left it still cooking this morning and wont be back in my house until 5pm tonight.

Total time it has been cooking will be around 20 hours!

My question is, do you think it will survive and if not, how do i go about rescuing it?

It usually comes out with quite a bit of liquid left in if I cook it on low for 8 hours, I then have to ladle a few spoons out.

    What do you think?

    Cheers

I have a slow cooker and I love mine but it has never occurred to me to put it on overnight!

Thanks for the tip Jackop. I just hope the cooking smells don't keep me awake.
  • I sometimes use it over night for hubbies lunches so it goes on Sun night and he has warm food for lunch Monday and reheats the rest of the week.
The smell bothers me!! Doesn't matter what it's cooking
If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:
  • I always use mine overnight as I have economy 7 electricity - the only problem is being unable to resist rice pudding for breakfast when the whole house smells of it in the morning! The spag bol should be fine though.

    Hi all,

craigywv you were right, it was all dark and goopy on the top. Instead of scraping it off I stirred it in and it was lovely!

I didnt get home until 6pm, so its now been added to the recipe's knowing that I can do that in the future.

BTW yes I always do mine overnight. Why bother having the leftovers for lunch the next day when you can have a little taster before everyone else on the same day!? haha

Also this way, if its terrible you can try and fix it before anyone else notices!

    Thanks for the help all
