HELP, bought the cheap Argos slow cooker and still packaged and in argos bag in hall. Don't know where to start.
Any really really basic first steps, how do you know how long to cook meat for? Really nervous when it comes to cooking meat.
Basic help needed. Thanksnow mum of 4!!!0 -

not really a question but I've just had a phone call from my mother in law to say she has bought me a slow cooker. Don't know what kind or size (as she had to get off the phone) but boy oh boy am I excited - I've been wanting one for AGES! As I full time working mum of two I hope this improves my life dramatically! :-)
Anyhoo, glad to see there is a complete slow cooker collection - I'll start reading it tonight to see what my first recipe should be and no doubt will be asking loads of questions in the near future!0 -
You'll love it ... and we're all here to help with any questions

One of the best tips is never be tempted to add too much liquid as you'll get LOADS of condensation turning to liquid as it cooks. You literally only need a very small amount.
Have fun!Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Thanks Mimi
Turns out I have got the Russell Hobbs 3.5 L "you are what you eat" slow cooker (wasn't the one I fancied but hey it was bought for me so I aint complaining!). Husband wants me to try a stew first so I'll give it a go once I get to the butchers.
When making my stew in the oven I've always put in a lot of liquid - I'll take your tip about not putting in too much this time!0 -
can anyone give me a good idea of what to put in with my turkey legs to make a tasty tea? And how long do i need to cook them for - my cooker has low med and high settings?0

Have a look at this thread. I know it's about chicken rather than Turkey, but you could adapt the recipesHTH

Well I have officially joined the SC club!!! :j (how sad that at the age of 25 I'm excited about a SC
) I bought a Rival Versaware crockpot
I've read the user manual and it all seems a bit overwhelming! I know the principle... bung it all in, switch it on and come back x hours later. Sounds good. However... the manual tells me to use whole spices rather than ground, and if I really want to use ground spices I should only add them in the last hour. Now I am definitely not a nervous cook and I kinda cook by the seat of my pants IYKWIM! :rotfl: But what do you all think. Is there any truth in this or is it total codswallop (sp!) !!"Money frees you from doing things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money is handy."

I must say that does sound a bit like codswallop to me
To get the best flavour, I'd fry the spices (ground or whole) with the onions and garlic and meat before putting it in the SC. But, don't worry if you don't have time/caqn't be bothered to do that I'm sure the long cooking will bring out the flavour of whatever spices you use
