    Hwllo,

I put a chicken (1.75 kg) in my slow cooker at 10.15 am this morning on high. Does anyone have an idea when this will be ready?

This is the first time I have used my new slow cooker, so I am quite nervous!

    Thanks!

About four to five hours on high should be plenty. To check - stick a skewer or a pointy knife into a nice meaty bit and the juices that run out should be clear. If they look murky or bloody you need to cook for a bit longer.

  • Hello,

Can anyone help? I'm making chicken soup with the roast leftovers from yesterday which is something I've done quite often - however I've found a bag of dried egg noodles and wondered if I could throw them in too? The soup is on low and will have been on 8-9 hours by the time it's done so should I just chuck the noodles in towards the end of cooking?

Noodles should take about 4mins to cook on the hob. I'd put them in very near the end even in the SC. They will be OK boiled for longer but too long and they will get that softness that you get with overcooked pasta...

    Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me... I got a 6.5 litre Morphy Richards slow cooker for my xmas and haven't used it yet as i was trying to use up everything in the cupboards and freezer 1st. I also have a 3.5 litre Frigisaire one that hasn't been used either.

Anyway my mum came round today and gave me a 1.01kg brisket of beef and i have no idea what to do with it.

Please can someone advise which slow cooker i should use??
What do i do with it ???
How long should it go on for ???
and do i need to do anything to it before i put it in the slow cooker??

I really don't want to waste it but have no idea what to do.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Hiya, :)

I'm pretty sure that there are some brisket recipes that you could use here:-

    The Complete Slow Cooker Collection

As for which size, it depends on how many people you want to feed, and if you want to make extra for leftovers or the freezer.

I'd say - up to four portions, or the meat alone, the small one.

This does depend too on if you just want to cook the brisket as a stand alone, or want to pad it out and cook all your vegetables and potatoes with it as well in a casserole or stew.

Thanks for your reply. I just want to cook the meat alone as i don't want to have to buy anything else at the moment and i used the last of my veg and potatoes to make soup!

It's only me that its for but im sure my mum would take some if its done right!

So if i use the small cooker how much water do i need to put in and how long do i leave it on for?

    Thanks

This recipe should help you out:-

If your slow cooker instruction book has recipes, just check what times they advise for similar meals, otherwise use the timing given in the link.

If you're just doing the meat I'd suggest a barest minimum of about 1cm will be fine, because you only need enough water to form a seal round the lid. If you like lots of gravy... use more :)
