Where is the best/most cost effective place to get:

• waterproof trousers
• folding snow shovel
Thank you!

Don't know about the shovel )try Ebay?), but Aldi had some fab waterproof trousers, quilted inside. They were on offer last week but my local Aldi still had a lot yesterday (also jackets to match).

Don't know about the trousers but I got my folding shovel from eb@y for £5.89 inc p&p. It even has a serated edge on one side - to help build an igloo, perhaps?

Gosh! That's a new one!

I never realised that you could buy gluten to add to standard plain flour.

Can you point us to a good source, please?

How much do you have to use per (2lb) loaf? How much does it add to the cost per loaf?

Squeaky--
AP flour has less protein than bread flour. Wheat gluten is protein so adding it to regular flour makes it more like bread flour. here, I can buy it in the grocery store. There are 2 brands I have used-- Bob's Red Mill and Arrowhead Mills brand. I find its easier just to buy the bread flour and not have to bother with with gluten. If I recall I think its 1 teaspoon gluten per cup of AP flour.
• Have just given in and bought a folding snow shovel off e*bay.

I do have a garden spade that I usually use but my car is tiny and it does literally take up 1/2 the boot and makes getting anything else in (shopping, clothes, presents etc if going to DM&DF at Christmas etc) extremely difficult and I end up taking it out / putting it back all the time (and probably will forget when I really need it).

It comes with a pouch it folds up into and folds down to 24cm (less than a ruler) so will be a lot easier to leave in for the whole winter period - not sure how effective it will be but it does have a serrated edge - so will hopefully do should that emergency ever arise.

• Is anyone else beginning to wonder if Winter is going to be bad after all this year?
I LOVE Winter so much (I swear I have the opposite to SAD) and Snow particularly but with this Indian Summer talk and the forecast saying its going to be 25 here on Friday I am starting to fret that Winter wont be as exciting as the last 2 years!
(Which I know is good for some people) but from a selfish point of view I think I am starting to worry that Winter is going to get warmer again and we wont be able to enjoy a "real" winter again this year. Anyone else think this or anyone have any thoughts as to how it will be in the next few months? I know there was predictions of a harsh winter that i read back in June or something I am wondering if there is anything more recent?

I'm with you chirpychick,
I love winter....Maybe as I'm a December baby
I love snow and wrapping up warm and burning candles, tonight I am burning Yankee 'Apple Wreath' tealights everywhere.
When I lived in Scandinavia for a while the snow used to make me quite tearful with happiness.
I swear my ancestors must have viking blood in them.:)

I AM from Viking decent and I still freakin hate the cold!!! I could cheerfully hop on a plane and disappear for 4 months over the winter period.

However.... Did I mention my new Rabbit Fur coat from ebay? < chuckles because i've been banging on about it on here! > I am quite looking forward to being able to wear it... Its wayyyyyyyy too warm atm... I think it would have to be pretty cold for me to be able to wear it as its roasty toasty!!! (and soft, and gorgeous and I LOVE it!!!)

Rising, just bear in mind that snow shovels are useless on compacted walked on snow. It needs to be intact - if you get my drift (drift LOL DRIFT get it boom boom :rotfl:) to get to use them properly.

So the best thing you can do is open your door and start moving the snow that way and create your path clearing everything right back. If it is walked on then you are going to have to spade those areas.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D
• DH finally put the curtain pole and hung the curtain today in the hall way :j So that is another thing ticked off the winter to do list.

I too love Winter, my gran always used to say that if there is lots of berries on the tree's then we are in for a bad one...the trees have been full this year... x

Thanks Rainy, will bear that in mind ...... thinking about it, I'm sure my passenger seat has a tray thing underneath that pulls out so will check to see if it will fit in there when it comes.

If I do get stuck, it's likely to be going into a passing place on a single track road if I'm unlucky enough to meet anything:eek: so hopefully not too much compacting having gone on!:D

There were a lot of people struggling to get out of car parks at work last year but TBH if it's that bad I tend to get the bus anyway as the road there is pretty awful with a HUGE hill to go up & down:eek: (and I really don't like it as there's pretty big drop.....)
