We are having a few mild days here but I will not be distracted by that! ASDA had some great brushed cotten PJ bottoms and a lovely knitted cardi/jacket which is the perfect match for my cord skirt. Both items for £24 which I thought was very good.
Plans are mainly on getting the garden sorted out for winter this week.rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Will have to go and hunt through cupboards to find something to wash - can't pass that up!:D
and I am very interested in the gluten idea - I can never get wholemeal bread flour that cheap but if I could add gluten to ordinary flour that would make a huge difference.
my prep has had to be delayed for a week or so but will then go ahead at full steam:D
today the lovely lady that looks after my garden has made up all my tubs with the spring bulbs so I suppose thats a sort-of winter job.:cool:
just making lists and decisions for now.
toots xPeace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

I'm with you 100%. I live on my own and wouuld move out rather than get within yards of the things. There was one in my bedroom recently - in my bed no less, found it when I threw the duvet back to get into bed :eek: - I slept on the sofa for three nights
. I can cope with small ones but the big ones make me feel physically sick. I really feel for folk who can't even go near little ones. Will have to look into chestnut oil but I don't know if I have much faith in anything ever getting rid of them.
There was a ginormous one in my bathroom sink once, like you, I live alone and was freaking, was so big that I could even wash him down the drain. After a week:eek: of cleaning my teeth over the bath and having to wash my hands over the bath also, I got my trusty Dyson out:DA smile costs little but creates much0 -

Don't want to worry you but hoovering doesn't always kill them - THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO COME BACK OUT! :eek:
Actually i used to be scared of them, but they don't bother me now. Bit of card and a glass and job done - i got used to them cos i didn't want to make the kids scared.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Going back to making cold remedies - I still use my great-grandmother's recipe for blackberry vinegar. Basically, you weigh the blackberries, cover them with vinegar (plain old malt is fine) for 3 days, then strain and boil the liquid with the equivalent weight of sugar until its nice & syrupy. Bottle it, and make up with hot water at the first sign of a cold.0

I got a packet while out with my mum earlier on and while I was putting them in the (now packed) freezer she asked me if I was preparing for a siege :rotfl:
I think she has forgotten what it's like living without a car, without a minion (her OH) to do her bidding having been stranded on a railway platform in the middle of nowhere for ninety minutes when it's minus ten outside. She cannot set foot out of doors when it's at all icy.0 -
Where is the best/most cost effective place to get:
- waterproof trousers
- folding snow shovel
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hi long time lurker *waves*
I have bought vital wheat gluten from here to make seitan before http://www.honest-to-goodness.org.uk/index.php/vital-wheat-gluten-1kg.html?___store=default
Thanks. That one showed up in a google search but I wondered if anyone knew of other (cheaper/better) sources.
I just picked up 3 packs of asda strong flour at 68p each which these days isn't a lot more than their bog standard plain flour.
I must admit that while plain flour make "edible" bread... strong flour make better bread. If adding gluten increases the quality of bread made with plain flour then it's worth looking at.
EDIT: I still don't know how much I'd have to use per loaf. I like the sound of having an Amish pen-pal although snail mail is not my preferred method of communication. There are lots of great folks in the states who are just livin' the best they can and still doing stuff we Brits forgot about in c1950!!!!
I have had to learn to be a lot more patient! The girl that joined the Amish was my email pen pal for a while so I got used to typing my "letters" and getting responses within hours. Now I handwrite the letters (my handwriting and spelling have been SO spoiled by the laptop) and there can be weeks between letters.
The Amish seem to be more c1850!!0 -
Hi everyone!! *waves*
I'm joining up better late than never! I'm trying to prep for winter but i still live my parents and so dont have quite so much to be doing!
TO DO
* buy slippers
* get a fleece blanket to line my bedroom curtains with
* buy more socks
* get stocked up on cat litter
* buy bag of rock salt for drive
* buy new electric blanket (old one doesnt produce much heat anymore)
* clear out my wardrobes as i tend to be given loads of new clothes and as my wardrobes are filled to bursting right now, i could use the space!!
* pick up plenty of cold/flu meds ready
I did start my christmas shopping today, so really chuffed with myself! this is the earliest i've ever started!!!Was debt free then ex walked out and COVID hit.0
