Preparing for winter II

But how will they get here?
Do you know that was going to be my question!! However, I will add that we are an island so the only way they could is if some doughnut introduces them! If they can swim - good luck to them, but it would have to be a stonking winter for the North Sea to freeze to such an extent that they will come trotting across! I just can't see it myself!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Journey to work was at least 2 hours each way last year (long difficult walk to bus stop through feet of snow, waiting up to an hour for a bus, horrendous journey then staggering across icey paths to get to the office) - instead of a 15 minute car journey.
I ended up losing up to 3 hours time a day which took months to make up (either that or lose pay:().
Also didn't make it to DM & DFs for Christmas Day (1st time ever) which was really hard.
So, being selfish too - I really hope it isn't.
Have a look at http://www.exactaweather.com/UK_Long_Range_Forecast.html for an idea (doesn't look great depending on where you are).
Sorry! Not wishing for anyone else to suffer the bad weather! Thats why I said in a selfish sense but hoping everyone else is safe and warm of course!
Perhaps if i could just have it over my house for the entire winter? I'll have yours if you likeRainy-Days wrote: »Chirpychick - there was a recent report issued last week that waqs forecasting heavy snow at the end of October and a prolonged spell of very bad weather with plummeting tempertures which would last through to January!
I also recall a 'swan song' ending to last September (2010) and then we had the big bang with huge snowfalls and probably the worst winter since 1964! All I can tell you is this, the trees are absolutely laden with berries, which allot of us believe is a portent of a bad winter. Friends of ours who do hunting are saying that the rabbits they are catching have more fat on them this year than in previous times (also another countryside belief is animals fatten up for a very lean winter ahead).
I think this year is going to be a very bad one, whether it will be on a par or even worse than last year I simply don't know, but I hope the above helps!
I did say to hubby yesterday i remember bonfire night last year we wore jumpers (not coats) and had to take them off it was so mild last year! We did face a colder Winter but not as much snow as the year before.
I really do love snow! Its my first year not working so i think thats probably why i selfishly want loads - so i can enjoy it without worrying about losing pay. But obviously i wouldnt wish it on anyone, how about i have all of the snow everyone else doesnt want :jEverything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
Piers Corbyn (who has usually been right about winter) doesn't think much of Exactaweather
http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=382&c=1
However, reading it again I am not sure he is going so far as to say it WON'T be cold - he is just saying that the others are all guessingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

LOL at justamum re the ferry and how funny to think of the North Sea freezing to that extent :rotfl:
On the other hand... It wouldn't be so funny if it did
I've still not had my heating on here - builder has let me down re the fireplace  So I have to start again... Very annoying but I know it will be worth it in the end.
Still freaking out about that H U G E spider that tried to move in last night. Indorex is on order from fleabay - cheaper than at the vets at just over £10... frankly a bargain as it kills the b*ggars for months after one application and saves my sanity
Rabbit coat (for me, not a coat for a rabbit) will be here this week! It said on the listing that it "needs airing" so I hope its not too musty. I will hang it outside when possible and then in the bathroom over a steaming bath of vinegar and water which is supposed to get the smell out - failing that, coffee grains are meant to be good but I hope it doesn't come to that because I hate the smell of coffee!
No more winter preps happening here atm as, until the ex pays up (solicitor has assured me I will win) I am skint! Hey ho. I've got all my crafting stuff to do and have started getting emails from various places asking if I would like a table this year :T That usually makes me enough to cover the whole of Christmas0 -
re the creepy crawlies frugal, get the repellant spray from kleeneze, made from horse chestnut oilo, seems to work for me (she says whilst ensuring someone checks everywhere for her)Nonny mouse and Proud!!

All you people killing off the spiders, just get a glass jar and a bit of cardboard and chuck the spider outside, they do a good job for us and it's entitled to it's life same as anyone else is. I do this quite often and I am also scared of them! Just don't kill them.0
-
We have a conservatory and I can't easily reach to get rid of the spiders as they can get in behind the moulding round the top rail. However we have a live and let live approach - Spiddy gets rid of flies and wasps which I hate moreIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up!
