Can I ask how you fitted them?

really easily, I measured the size of the radiator and trimmed to size with sissors, then i put them against the radiator and made slits for where the brackets were and slid them down the back of the radiator. I left the finished side ( it has some kind of binding around the edge) at the top where If viewed from above looks neat and tidy. optionally you can blue tack or pin them to get them really flush to the wall if you want a really neat finish. it took less than 5 mins each and I have kept the trims to insulate the pipes outside for the washing machine to stop it freezing again. I am really no DIY buff and it was easy !
Thank you to all the money savers:beer: for all the wisdom, companionship, bargains, competitions and ideas:T you have made a transformation to our household, Thank you, it would have been so much harder without you and together we are amazing :A:smileyhea

    Morning Preppers :D

I forgot to mention I got a snow shovel at the carboot yesterday for £5, brand new :D

Very blustery here altho nothing has been mentioned about our area being affected... Great storm with no weather warning '87 anyone?!!! So i'm taking no chances - garden furniture will shortly (when I can be bothered to get off here!) be put in the shed along with any other bits and bobs that my flight about the garden!!! Trees are blowing sideways

***Anybody thinking of getting Yaktrax but struggling to justify the cost... This winter is likely to be worse than last, and that was bad enough and worse than we are used to... Yaktrax are not as pricey as 6+ weeks of taxis, time off work etc if you were to slip and break a wrist (or worse) not to mention the pain and, as my DD aged 5 broke her arm last week, I am seeing the inconvenience of having a broken limb and its a heck of a lot worse than I imagined... I ummed and arrrrred for ages but now, to me, the £20+ quid is definately money well spent.

Still waiting for quote from builder for fireplace :D
I think I will get some Yaktrax - does anyone know where is the cheapest place for them?

I stuck my wheelie bins in the garage last night ... glad I did. I stuck the green bin out this morning as the bin lorry hadn't been and was able to keep an eye on it till it came and then stowed it safely again. It's pretty wild out right now!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

  • Morning all

Well I have spent half the morning preparing the hosu for the cold by putting out the draught excluders and blankets for the sofa too as the wind here is bloody awful - its in intermitent blasts but wow is it cold.

Had to evict a giant spider earleir too that made a run at holly and she promptly decided to try and pick up - in the end I had to put a glass desert bowl over the top of it as a pint glass just wouldnt cut it! and even when I put it outside in the hedgerow it made a run back at the door to the hsyterical screams of my sister in law!

And I had to work tonight which means a cold 20 minute walk to work - urgh! should be interesting!
    Time to find me again

:) I've seen them in Trespass at £16.95 but will check Go Outdoors before I buy; someone (on this thread?) mentioned that G.O. do them and I have a membership card so can get some money off. I want to get the best price as am getting a pair for me and a pair each for the aged parents so they don't (hopefully!) fall and injure themselves. They're going to be part of their Xmas gifts but I shall give them early with a standing instruction to open them and USE them if needed before Dec 25th. HTH.:)

Winds are certainly picking up here. Central belt is apparently going to be the worst hit:(

Put my car into the garage this morning for two front tyres, brake discs and pads. Apparently the trackings off too. At least the car will be sorted before Winter. Glad i phoned round for quotes. Current garage is charging £220 but a well known one wanted £340

Now completely skint and still need 3 curtain poles, hmmm off to beg, borrow and (legitimatelly) steal lol.

Hope everyones keeping safe in the bad weather!!

Thanks GreyQueen! I rang around a few local outdoor shops but ended up getting them online from Scoutgear, a US site. 2 pairs of YakTrax Pro including delivery for $55.89 which works out cheaper than anywhere I've found them in Ireland or on Ebay. Not sure if the shops you mentioned deliver to Ireland - I'm not going to check in case I've missed out on a cheaper deal cos I lacked the patience to wait for answers!

P.S. I blame Frugal for this unplanned purchase! (but will thank her when I don't slip when the icy weather hits) ;)

Getting quite windy here now. How do you explain to a very annoyed cat that he can't go out because he'll blow away? He can see it's raining but still doesn't quite believe it. I would open the door so he can see for sure but he's mental and might just go out. Last night I had to listen to him screeching and running up and down the stairs. Not a happy kitty lol.
