Worried about my DD as she is in a wooden hut at Bestival on the IOW. Hope it doesnt get to gusty as she will need a sick bag on her return crossing.
I was having a cuppa with Mooloo earlier and her whirley gig took off. The wind really got up so she battened down the hatches as she hadnt realised that bad weather was on its way. Hope you all stay safe and warm x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

then stay inside - if it gets really bad I think staying near a chimnet breast is safest - Kathy in the US might know if that is true.

Not sure what a chimnet breast is. Here (for tornadoes) they say to go into an area that you can close off and has no windows-- like an interior hallway. I've also heard get in the bathtub and pull a mattress over you or go to the basement. Fortunately I've never experienced tornado force winds, so I really have no experience. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Aw gee, thanks everyone for all your congrats on the village show - it was fun and it does provide a goal to work towards with at least some cooking for the winter.
I take it no one has any solutions to my busted bubbles in the window wrap??? Maybe I should just go for a better quality on e bay and see how it goes.
I have put out a request on one of the 3 freecycle groups I'm on for Puffa style coats so Im hopeful someone is 'upgrading' their wardrobes over the next couple of weeks. Haven't got a penny to my name now and just enough petrol for about 25 miles - so its going to be a big challenge - but hey that's what being OS is all about!!

    Hi All
Did ok yesterday 3 1sts and 3 2nds plus the veggie Lentil and pea puree savoury flan won first plus a 'Perfect' written on the card!! Yay go veggies!!!

Congrats Tugrin on all your successes yesterday!

I think the trapped air provides the insulation on the bubble wrap. Can you cut around the burst sacs and then piece it together with the good areas?

    Hi K
No there are far too many burst bubbles - boo hoo.
The chimney breast is just the solid brick built (usually double type thickness0 where it makes the house stronger I guess its the same principle as using the inner hall but some little old cottages like mine are only 2 rooms deep. Must apologise for the dreadful typing too - dont know whether its te brain or te hands that cant keep up!!

Thanks for the clarification. As I was typing my response I wondered if you meant chimney to begin with. I totally understand the brain-finger connection when one is typing-- I have it too!

Now heres a thing - I got my large bubble wrap for windows - it has lots of the bubble erm 'deflated' in groups almost as if it was a manufacturing fault. I have put up some and the view is totally obscured as the rest of the bubbles dont seem to have much air in them! It was very cheap on the market but is this normal - is it very hit and miss as to bubbles being burst? On youtube vids they seem to be able to see out better than I can at the mo!............. What does everyone think?

hiya, could you tell me how to find the youtube guide to putting up the bubblewrap at windows please?:)

  • this ward is quite high up in the hospital and we are catching the wind - might be a noisy night - just hope my wee home will be ok for when I get back tomorrow.

cant wait to get back to trying to do some more winter prep stuff!!!

    stay safe everyone
    tootsxx

Toots now you behave yourself...we can't have you doing yourself a mischief....baby steps.

It's a bit breezy here in Aberdeen but we haven't had anything I class as storm force yet. I'm sure your home will be fine as I remember you saying you'd got everything from the garden in. Hope you're up and about very soon
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'

    bought new hot water botlles
    flannellette sheet(tesco-£9.99 for a kingsize)
given lined curtains by my mum, she's just re-decorated and they were making their way into her loft!
am hoping not to put on heating until at least end of october(be a record for me!)
trying to source thermals for me and my boy (gave him set of "sonic the hedgehog" thermals for part of his end-of-august birthday-is that mean??)
