Preparing for winter II

Wow. We actually have some sun today!!! Got a load of washing out and now got a second in the washing machine. Hopefully get all the fleeces and heavy jumpers dry on the line!
I was ironing earlier and turned round to see this gigantic ginger tiger staring at me. Made my little cat look like a toy. It was just sitting in my dining room, sigh serves me right for keeping the patio door open i suppose.0 -

personally though i think wrapping now is a good idea, take some stress out of christmas so you can kick back and enjoy it. i have always regretted it the years when we've waited until christmas eve to wrap all of the wee ones presents... it's always a really late night cuz it's so hard to get her to sleep early when she's that hyped up, seems to go on for hours and hours and i actually normally enjoy making the presents look nice but if it's last minute they get what they get and should be glad they were wrapped at all
Hi
what about doing the main wrapping (ie paper & probably a gift card) now, and then doing the ribbons/bows on Christmas eve? I know when we transport beautifully wrapped presents, the bows always end up getting squashed! That way you would have the main bulk of the work done, the presents wouldn't look as if they'd suffered in transit, and you would still have something to do to while away the evening!0 -

i just love how easy it is to throw in the water, rice, veg and seasonings, give it a good stir then come back when the bell dings (10 min for white rice if i remember correctly, 20 for brown) it's even easier than doing spuds in the microwave cuz you don't have to wash and poke holes in the rice
Am looking forward to trying it out:) Sounds like my way of cooking rice!0 -

at our last flat we had a neighbourhood cat that would wander in and out as she pleased as we often left the back door open. my daughter is moggy mad so she loved it. the cat was too skittish to stay for long but she'd let my daughter give her some affection before she left.. now see that's my kind of pet, don't have to clean up after them, pay vet bills or feed them (though softy that i am i often gave her the odd bit of left over chicken)0 -

thanks for the suggestion, i've tried that but as they get shoogled around so much they still don't arrive looking so nice! to get to grans we have to take:
taxi --- train ---- taxi(if we can't get to glasgow central, too much luggage to haul from queens street to central) --- train --- ferry---taxi
needless to say after that many times of having the luggaged picked up, dragged around, crammed in to any storage space possible etc, wrapped gifts just don't stay well wrapped!
i don't really mind wrapping them at grans house IF we don't wait til christmas eve. like i said, she has no internet so it gives us something to do. we usually go about 4-5 days before christmas so we don't hit the worst of the train traffic.
last year we had to go far earlier, in fact we left on the 18th and were quite literally chased by the bad weather and wound up having to walk a fair bit of the way there after we got off the ferry as the snow was so deep the taxis quit running... which also meant so deep dragging luggage was horrible
i was actually grateful to have something to do that trip, well after i recovered from getting there, she's up a steep hill too and my arthritis in my knees and spasming back muscles made it sheer torture to get there in that weather but at least i had some wrapping to keep me busy for a few hours :rotfl:
for those that have a car, yes i highly recommend prewrapping then adding ribbons and bows etc in situ, this is what i did when i still lived in the states and used to visit my family there0 -

At least it was a nice animal, I left my doors open recently and went in with the polish to hear & then spot a HUGE furry beast. He was having none of leaving and I eventually got rid after 2 hours when he decided he didn't like the sound of the hoover:eek: Admittedly, at that stage the only constructive thing that I had done was closed the living room door so there was only one way out and then sat with my feet well off the floor:DA smile costs little but creates much0 -

Ribbons and bows? Posh presents
What? Do you mean you don't snaffle the bows other people put on presents for you and keep them nice and safe til next time. A loop of sellotape & hey presto... 'posh present':D
We recycle gift bags too! Its not just me, its the whole family!
Mind you, I did think my sister had gone a bit too far when my birthday present came with a father Christmas bag, but she did explain it was the only one she could find that was the right size.0
