Preparing for winter II

Another request, if anyone spots any cotton cardigans or tracky type tops without hoods could they post about them. I'm allergic to wool and acrylic, so have problems finding layers for Winter and two of my cardi's have holes now.

Toonie, Land's End online (landsend.co.uk) do cotton cardis all year round, and if you check their sale items (and aren't too fussy about colour!) you can often get them for a good price.0 -
Just popping in quickly to say that mountain warehouse have some snow boots reduced in store. I got these boots reduced to £24.99:

They had both black and white.0 -
I lined my bedroom curtains with some IKEA fleeces today - and I am pleased with how it looks, so hopefully it will also do the job and keep the chill out as well. I have also made 6 jars of Sweet Chilli jam (which is actually for eating with cold meat and cheeses, rather than an actual jam) and I am knitting a pair of wristwarmers - half way up the second one, so nearly there now. I feel like I am making headway down my list!December GC: £3500

Toonie-- I recommend flannel(ette) sheets for winter, and a down duvet if you can find affordable ones.
I got a great deal Monday on some heated throws and 2 car blankets online. I was going to crochet 3 afghans for C-mas, but these were cheaper than the cost of the yarn, so I'll substitute these instead.
Also used coupons to get a killer deal on frozen veggies-- bought 34 packages and managed to cram them all into the freezer somehow. I still have 6 coupons for 6 more bags, but I have no idea where I would keep them! After coupons I paid $.30 per bag (about 20p I think). With what I had already put away, we should be good for quite a few months.0 -
I need to stock up on herbal tea, I get the normal tea, coffee and hot chocolate whenever there are good offers on at the supermarket but I havnt seen a decent deal on herbal tea for ages, has anyone seen any?
I like green tea and most blends but the calming ranges are my favorite such as spiced apple and camamile, honey, lemon and ginger etc.
I like the herbal blends too (and peppermint) I've been waiting ages for it to go on sale and finally just ordered some at the regular price (it seems to be going up almost as fast as butter!) I did get a few nice things to try at a local Turkish supermarket, so perhaps visiting a supermarket with lots of import goods like that might yield some good deals, if you aren't partial to the T brand...0 -

Durhams not a multicutural place but I wonder if Newcastle may have some diffrent shops/blends in though I guess they wouldnt be wheelchair friendly so I would need someone to help me and my family hate my teas.
thank you for the fresh idea, I will post if I see any on offer on my travels.0 -
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best bedding to buy? When I do move out, I will have none to my name (apart from a few blankets) so want to have a think about that and what to buy. Clearly, with Winter fast approaching, I'll need something to keep me warm with no one else's body heat helping out. Any suggestions for types/styles/places to buy would be fantastic.

In other news, we've broken the news to our parents. My Mum was panicking about what I'll do, but I hope I've managed to reassure her and my Dad was just sad for me. The ex's parents reacted the same, but it was his Dad who was panicky and also who blamed my ex and called him uselesswith support like that it's no wonder he suffers from depression.
Toonie, sorry the news was difficult, been there, done that sadly. I have since however been with the man of my dreams for the last 28years.
Get yourself an electric blanket hon ' tis just wonderful and warm, costs about £20 to buy and about 3p a night to run.
Try fleece tops for winter, as warm as wool but no scratchies. Simple to wash and tumble dry and cheap.0 -
I saw flannellete bed sets (double) in B&M last week, and I thought I'd posted about it but I haven't. I think they were something like £12 but I can't be sure. I remember thinking that it worked out cheaper than v*ery but at the time I was at the start of the shopping trip & didn't want to be carrying them around with me then I forgot to go back and get them before we got the busCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

what about whittards in the market place or the market hall?0 -
I'm not sure if this has already been said but for those who are making/buying sausage draught excluders for internal doors. Find the bottom of the draught excluder and about a third of the way up sew some tape/material 1/3 rd in on both ends and the middle. The tape should be long enough to go under the door when the draught excluder is in place. On the other end either tie a large knot (so it doesn't get back under the door) or use toggles/large beads. The draught excluder with then move with the door when opening and closing.0
