    Hello Mumof2
Delighted to have you on board - yes I agree about the Craghoppers - when you are out a lot you need to be warm!!! I see you are in the south west - my memories of living there are of te cold, bone chiling damp-cold which is much worse than the dry cold we geet in the East.
Lining the curtains has made a MASSIVE difference to my cottage so def. do that to keep warm! How old are the '2'? If they are v small then keeping them cosy is obviously important to stop the chill, sneezes and general hideousness of all those night -nterrupting childhood illnesses.
Great to have you with us!

  • Replaced the draught excluders on the front and porch doors and will be lining the curtains shortly, once some sensibly-priced material becomes available.
    It's only numbers.

Elgar you shouldn't need bubblewrap for your windows if you've got double glazing. The thermal linings should be sufficent :D

How about stocking up on tinned/packet food/toiletries/toilet roll ;) etc?
Have you got plenty of warm clothes/blankets/duvets etc
    Winter boots/shoes/wellies?
    Winter medications?
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'

ETA - Have you got a car? How about an emergency box/snow shovel in there?

Get plenty of warm drinks/thermal mug
    Candles
    Batteries for torches etc

I've bought two new jumpers from M&S.
The casmillion(sp?) range start at £12.50. I bought some last year & they wash & dry really well.

  • If anyone is in need of de-icer....I got some from Mr Ts last night, still 62p :o I know someone said earlier it had gone up to £3 in their local store, so maybe it's varying store to store? (This was a regular supermarket sized store not an "extra")

Called into the "extra" near work on Tues and got a really big basket weave throw (should be very warm and snuggly) reduced from £12 to £3-really pleased!!
Thanks to all posters for your never ending help and support

Durhams not a multicutural place but I wonder if Newcastle may have some diffrent shops/blends in though I guess they wouldnt be wheelchair friendly so I would need someone to help me and my family hate my teas.

thank you for the fresh idea, I will post if I see any on offer on my travels.
The Chinese supermarket on Stowell street in Newcastle stocks a variety of different teas, you may have to ask one of the assistants what they are though. :o The shop itself is a little cramped but I've managed to wheel my OH round okay. I love the Chinese supermarket, they've got some great bargains.

For anyone who has a Makro card, I was there yesterday and they've got big snow shovels for £9.99, 22kg bags of winter rock salt for £5.99 and some yaktrak type anti-slip spikes for £4.99. Also for those of you with a tinned tomato fetish they've got a tray of 12 tins of chopped or plum tomatoes for £2.49. :D I got some last time they were on offer and they're quite good quality, actually I must make a note of when they have them on offer because it seems to be every couple of months so it's worth stocking up when they're cheap.

  • Hi all,
Bought a pair of fleece pjs in primarni 2 days ago and they are so warm in the evening after my bath... will be off to get another pair on monday as they are only £8. Trouble is, they are so comfy , I dont want to get dressed in the morning. Looked at the all in ones, but the thought of stripping off to go to the loo in the night really put me off!!
