Preparing for winter II

There has been a gale coming in through the old kitchen door for the past couple of years but because its the door I use to wheel into the house the door/frame is extra wide and custom made so expensive but mother nature gave me a kick by a gust of wind catching the door on Monday and pulling one set of hinges off revealing wood rot so a new door will be fitted next week though it really is putting a massive dint in our budget.
The weather hasnt half changed, its very cold here in Durham and windy so the thermals are out already.0 -
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere in the thread; I'm thinking about the appliances you put over boots or shoes to stop you slipping in ice or snow. For the life of me I can't remember what they're called so a thread search isn't working! Has anyone tried them? Can you recommend them? Where might I get some from?0

Phew, it's taken me ages to catch up!
Had 500 litres of oil delivered yesterday. We had 500 litres delivered back in March which we haven't used as we've had the heating off and been using the immersion heater for hot water. So that gives us a full tank and I won't have to worry about running out when it's really cold.
Regarding oil thefts, we don't lock our tank. When there were a spate of oil thefts on the news a year or so ago, they mentioned that padlocked tanks didn't put the thieves off, they just drilled a hole into the tank which meant that the owners then had the expense of replacing the tanks as well as the oil.
After finding that the first pair of Craghoppers that I ordered were too big, I ordered another pair, but in a size 12 this time. They came at the weekend and I realised that I'd ordered unlined ones, but they do fit me and although I meant to get the lined ones, I'm really pleased with these. I've found that even in torrential rain, I just need to wipe them down with a towel when I come in and they're dry as the water just kind of beads on the fabric rather than soaking in. I'm already living in them!0
