I am waiting now on my pay cheque - thursday cant come quick enough and I will be ordering my new freezer - so nerdy I know but you will all understand where Im coming from. I had originally seen it for £180, then it went down to £145 and I have now found it for £130 which will give me £50 to fill it with :money:. Which reminds me I need to clear space for it asap as Im not entirely sure where to put it yet!

congrats on your new freezer, i love mine! i was right that it would fit in my kitchen next to the fridge and still be able to open the lid (the kitchen has a 'breakfast bar' area that's useless as it's too small to get the chairs in around it!) so i shoogled it around and all that and it fit, lid cleared the bar yay, except... the cords weren't long enough!

didn't matter how i configured it one of the cords wasn't going to reach the socket. so instead it became my bedside table in my bedroom :rotfl:

i was a bit worried the noise might keep me awake but i slept fine from the first night and i now like the hum, drowns out ambiant noise from outside. i now also have a little night light for when i'm walking in my room to turn on the lamp from the green switch at the bottom of the freezer :p when i get in it i gently lay the lamp down on the bed, remove a few various items and get in and out quickly. only takes a few seconds so it's worked out well in the end.

I have a fairly bit kitchen diner so it should fit - I'm just not sure where yet as I have a lot of Owens stuff that is ear marked for going in the shed once it gets finished - if it gets finished before winter - which I'm highly doubting now but I hope it does! I do have a space near the back door as well though which I think it could nicely fit in but I have no socket out there so it would mean running an extension lead into the kitchen but theres nothing out there that the dog could get to either so it might work if I can move stuff around to get it all sorted out and tidy.
    Time to find me again

Good point, we couldn't get the hay we needed before Christmas (I pick up 35 bales at a time but the farmer's yard was inaccessible) and I had to buy bagged haylage, which didn't suit one of our old ponies at all, the local feed stores didn't get their usual deliveries and they ran out of everything we'd usually use. I won't risk that again, and will make sure I always have enough horse and chicken feed for a couple of months ahead.

We've ordered 2 large round bales which should just about fit in our shelter, though not sure when they're going to arrive. That should keep the 2 bigger ponies going all winter. The old girl, Penny, has a wave mouth (her cheek teeth no longer line up properly), so she has HiFi Lite (for anyone horsey) which is a chopped chaff, with some sugarbeet (Speedibeet) which she can't get enough of. Fat Shetland Rosie we think got laminitis in the winter last year, due to her eating as much hay as the others, so we're going to give her the low sugar chaff as well.

Incidentally my cats, who are the outdoor kind, have had enough of the weather today and have hibernated. The chooks are also flummoxed by the rain, having never seen it before and are standing in their run looking out of the door!

    Has your cat started hibernating???

Lost wee girl cat the other day - hunted the house, no sign. Was beginning to panic a bit, as it was quite late and I thought she's been stuck outside for hours, when I went to straighten the fleecy blanket over her bed and .... it moved! I nearly "had an accident" - the wee soul must've been feeling the cold as she's wrapped herself up in it totally;)

Boy cat has taken up residence in the wardrobe again (has a pillow with a fleecy blanket on the shelf) - sure sign winter's on it's way.... the back joins onto the cupboard with the hot water tank so it's lovely and warm in there .....;)

    They aren't silly are they!:D

and it's great, I really can get 2 loads on when both sides are open, and it folds tall and thin when not needed, but I don't remember when that last was!

Thanks Annie, that looks good too ... and may take up less room ... :D

I got that one from Lidl a few years ago, mine has red legs, and it's a brilliant airer, there's loads of room and it's wide enough for bath sheets. It's quite long with the arms out but narrow so it's ideal to stand along a wall, I normally stand mine against the wall under the window. You don't have to have the arms out, you can put your washing on the main horizontal part then fold the arms back over the top. I often use it when the weather is changeable, I put the washing on it and just lift it outside and back in if it rains. It's sturdy too so won't fall over if it's knocked.

    Fantastic!

Thinking I may take a trip to the "big" Mr A tomorrow (our's is tiny) ... may be worth the trip to see if they've fleece's and any airers there. If not, I'll try to get to L*dl next Monday.....

Chucked it down this morning - was horrid walking the dog:(. Brightened up and was lovely and now blowing a gale and raining:(.

Have just chased various things around the garden ... have managed to catch them so they're now in the garage along with my chairs - don't think they'll be needed again this year unfortunately.

My lovely cleaned out garage is looking a tip again - another job for the weekend is to try to get the chairs etc up onto the rafters so I can still (hopefully) get the car in!:)

Knitted throw coming along quite well - about 2 1/2 feet long so far. It takes me about 10 mins to do a row as it's so wide  but hoping it'll be nice & cosy around my shoulders in the evenings.:)

When do you start feeding the birds (if you do or stop in summer)?

I'd not normally start this early but wondering if I should as it's so cold/wet?

When we lived in a flat and our landlord wouldn't let us put up curtains/curtain poles, we attached blankets to the blinds instead to help keep the heat in/cold out. Can't remember exactly how we did it, but think it was my OH being rather creative with some string and the way the blinds were constructed!

sorry I have to ask. why were you not allowed curtains?? did he want to peep on you?

Thats a bit chuffing unreasonable of him tbh. was it that he just didnt want them up or just didnt want YOU to put them up?

We feed the birds all year round, that way they get used to coming into the garden.
Buy the food in industrial quantities from The Range or via t'internet.
We also have to buy badger food (+ doing occasional peanut butter sarnies and peanuts) for Billy (might be Barbara) the badger who visits every night.
    Normal people worry me.

i don't feed the birds when there is still ample natural food available

i doubt i will put any bird feeders out until the hard frosts set in (i have stored loads of apples, ready for the blackbirds and thrushes when they need them but i can't afford lots of fancy bird food and seeds so i will only put out scraps this winter
saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
    made loads last year
