    Re wellie sox I bought 2 pairs of 2.3 tog ski sox on that auction site for £2.49 inc p&p, then found some extra long in Home Bargains for £2.99. Not quite as thick but still fleece lined so should be nice and snug inside boots. No doubt someone will have found them much cheaper though ;)

    Oohh please wood burner people - ell me your tales - I have been SO disheartened by the ingoing saga of my back boiler etc etc. Is it absolutely necessary to put a liner in when I have a fully functioning chimney?? I very definitely remember us NOT having flue liners when we had 2 multifuels (Morso squirrel - loved that stove - and a Villager) in a Victorian single storey gate house. Why does the world seem to have gone liner mad???
    I know I wil have to knock out the original fireplace which is much bigger than the 16 inch open fire one I have now and then get someone to take the boiler out (this I KNOW could be dangerous if not done properly);
    Oh speak to me of cosy stoves and all the warmth they bring!!

    Tugrin - i use fancy wrapping paper if i cant find material for covering the jam, did some blackcurrant jam with bright pink paisley pattern and a pink ribbon looked fab but it has to be the thicker paper!

    Leuchars air show - noisy weekend for us too then as have 45 commando just at the end of the garden and the runway there no doubt will be used - when i first moved here, the second day here i heard an awful racket and ran through to the kitchen thinking the washing machine was dancing across the floor it was a great big blo0dy chinook hovering above the end of the garden with the marines popping their heads out!

    nothing much doing on the winter prep front today but it is mighty chilly and windy - will get fruit steeped for christmas cakes at the weekend and start my christmas list - kids have been told not to expect as much.
    away to get the knitting out - am not much of a knitter but the can can wool is fantastic for a fancy scarf - only 5 stitches on big pins but comes out all ruffled and can do 1 scarf a night! i get two scarfs to a ball - here's a link to what they look like but you can get the wool cheaper was thinking of buying a cheap cardigan and sewing it round the neck or a wide neck jersey http://www.willowfabrics.com/acatalog/Rico_Can_Can_Scarf_Wool_by_Rico.html

    Well i tidied out the cupboard under the stairs so that i can stash my Winter stores. 5 bags of crap later, its tidy. The livingroom however is another story.

    My heated airer should be here tomorrow - yay :j

    I got ski socks at Asda last year for a good price. Plus, re chilly feet, I save the insoles from trainers that have died - the loose ones that are shaped round the instep and heel. They wash well, will already be the right size for your feet and provide a nice cushioned, insulating layer in boots. And at no cost! This works for children's boots/shoes/trainers as well. They also help footwear that has gone a bit "baggy" from wear return to a good fit.

    Ordered a "silky" quilted dressing gown/housecoat today. I have a labrador and a cat and any fleece/towelling/velour stuff is an absolute nightmare for attracting pet hair. It's in a chinese'y pattern/style so doesn't look too old-fashioned - let's call it retro :rotfl:I like to potter round and have breakfast in my jammies so this will keep me toasty on winter mornings - there's only me to see it anyway!

    It's been very windy today with quite a lot of rain, but the house has stayed at a very stable temperature all day (no heating) at around 20C. Looks like my draughtproofing efforts may be working :)

    Never heard of heat holders socks and just checked ebay, cheapest I can find is £4.40 delivered :(
  • I have ordered twin sided draft excluders, i'll prob need a few more.

    Tomorrow i WILL measure our bedroom curtains so I can order liners for them.

    I will try and find a needle and thread so I can sew my bargain fleeces to living room window and door curtains.
    I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammar :)
