Gorgeous pics Sylvan, I love your picnic table!
Well am glad to know you lot will all be cosy in your matching purple slipper boots. Have never tried that kind of slipper before - they do look snuggly but not sure I'm willing to spend that much. Am a bit tempted though!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Oyes Sylvan, that looks familiar LOL! We got out with the loan of the daughters Rav. Came home to minus 14 and iced-up windows. Am on the couch in pyjamas and a dressing gown plus a woolly jumper on my feet
RV=Ratty Virgo. (OH) ! He's not vast. Just tall !
[I've been trying to post this for hours. It's been telling me my message is too short again! Does anyone else have that happen?]
[EDIT: Hooray, It finally worked - but now it keeps messing up my formatting :-/ ]
Should I worry mardatha ? - mine's a tall, ratty virgo too! We call him GOD.
Grumpy Old Dad.
I'm sitting here trying to psych myself up to get out of my nice warm nest and go to the loo. It'll have to be soon - he's just brought me the 10th cup of coffee of the day.
I'm so glad we moved further down the valley. We used to live up at 1500ft. Can't imagine what it's like up there now. (Some people were still digging out their lonnens in May this year and they still had patches of snow in June)
Thanks NualaBuala. Do you like the lovely thick cushion on my bench? Looks sooo comfy...
I've got some slipper boots somewhere. Haven't worn them for decades though. I tend to wander in and out of the house without changing my footwear so I have to use the moccasins with leather soles.Time flies like an arrow.

Take a look at this that I have just posted on another thread.

Anyone going to have a try?
Well I have given up on this as I can't find any 1/2" screws anywhere only 3/4" which may be too long for the soles of my old trainers.
Did find this idea on another site though.
Quote:
I bought myself a pair of cheap, slip on cleats for my shoes this winter and have worn them about six times and the cleats are falling out already. So I came up with this idea, get some smooth top thumb tacks and put four to six through the duct tape from the sticky side and wrap the tape around your shoes, and no more slipping on the ice. The Cleats (ice grippers) that I bought cost $5.98 , I have seen them for up to $44.95. With one roll of DUCT TAPE and a package of thumb tacks I can go for a long time for the price of even the cheap ice grippers.
Unquote.
Now then, where's me duct tape.0 -

OMG dont!! Virgos all think they're minor gods already !
Another very cold night, kitchen windows all iced up and frozen solid. My wee stray cat is missing from his box & there's blood on the snow. I hope its a mouse and not his. Worried now.
Need to rig up a door curtain on my back door. Its single glazed glass and getting just too cold now.0 -

Well from the Georgie dictionary it is:
Lonnen: A laneDonna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -
I used to work with a lovely girl from up north and she educated me with a bit of northern talk, words like ginnel - I love dialects
the frost is clearing here this morning, the trees have been beautiful, thick with frost, but green again this morning, feels quite mild too
I'm having a futher through my pantry and freezer then checking through my lists to see if I need to restock anything before christmas;
take care all of you people still dealing with snow and ice... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I love dialects too, even though half the time I don't really understand what's being said.
Which leads me on to my next question-what's a ginnel please?:o
I bought a lot of foodstuffs yesterday for Christmas, bar fresh fruit/veg.I've been putting money aside every month for Christmas,so used some of this. It's all down in the cellar, out of tempation's way.0 -
Hrer in N Ireland we have "loanings" - the same as "lonnnens"? And in Scotland I remember there were "wynds" - pretty self-explanatory as they did tend to wind about a lot.
Mostly stuck in the house as it was about -8 last night and the side roads are still pretty lethal!0 -
a ginnel is an alleyway, as you get between 2 houses etc
years ago I had a long and lively 'discussion' with a very miserable carpet fitter who said he didn't like accents or dialects at all and thought we should all speak 'properly'! how boring that would be! when I was younger I deliberately dropped a lot of my local accent/words mostly for the sake of being understood by 'foreigners!' lol but now I'm older and living back in the area I think I'm reverting... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
