    Hi
I've been busy reading through the thread with loads of great ideas,
Can anyone advise on the best method for solving this.

In our kitchen we have a row of tiles behind the kitchen sink and they are covered in frost, I know the window will have contributed to this but what's the best way to insulate? We have had the kitchen tap frozen for the last 4 days and even with the fan heater & mini oil heater in the cupboard it has not solved it. We had scottish water out as we couldn't find the stop !!!!, so really panicking now, as they couldn't find it either! and advised us to contact them again when the snow is away! The rest of the house is very warm but the kitchen even with the heater chuffing out a good ouput of heat it seems we still have a cold spot.
Sorry for the rambling long post Lou x

Winged One, wrong thread I know but Irish Lidls have loads of knitting and some sewing (nearly typed snowing! :D) stuff as the current offer. Tis treacherous where I am - it was safer before when I just had a foot of snow to contend with, the ice is lethal and my area has a lot of slopes.

Lou it must be frozen outside before the mains comes into the house, so it might hopefully flood outside when it thaws. Cross fingies!
  • OOh thanks NualaBuala!! I don't need any wool (I have a huge stash of that at the mo) but might look at teh sewing stuff. Is there anything you want/need, if I do get there? Mind yourself on the ice - a colleague hit the deck this morning and got soaked and sore, in city centre (where it was reasonably clear yesterday).

Aw, thanks a mill Winged, you're a pet! I ventured out yesterday and got some of the sock wool - enough for 2 pairs for a fiver. It's got a decent wool content and does the striping thing so am chuffed with that. Saw a few falls, hope your colleague is ok. Saw a few people using crampon type things and hiking poles. I have to go out today to dentist and will be taking it VERY slowly!

Edit: there wasn't that much sewing stuff in the branch I went to - don't think I would bother go to Lidl if it were just for that!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just been watching Sky News and my heart goes out to those people in Scotland and the North who are having HUGE problems with the snow.

It has just shown pics of kids asleep on a school classroom floor, mentioning it took one parent 15 hours to get to school to get to her child! She was one of a number of people who then got stuck at the school with the kids, staff and other parents.

Those poor people stuck in their cars for 10 hours must be/have been going through hell.

Take care and stay safe everybody ;).
  • dh and I have so much sympathy for the people who are having to cope with the dreadful conditions lately. Seeing the people stuck on the motorways last night was a real eye opener. I hope to goodness that everyone has stayed well and that they all had good winter packs in their vehicles. It is a reality check when you see that people have had to be in their cars all night through minus 13 or so

I also saw on the news last night that heating oil has gone up 50% and is not available until after christmas in many areas in the sw

This autumn, not even winter yet , is already a nightmare for so many

It is quite scary to think that this could be the whole country in january

omg my boots came already and I only ordered them yesterday. I`ve been brave and walked on ice and they DON`T SLIP. The soles are very grippy, like winter tyres on a landrover and they are very warm and can take to minus 18 and the big bonus is that they are comfy. lol, I`m off for a walk this afternoon, carefully of course until I learn to trust them

Did you see the news yesterday about a%e in cardiff being inundated and mostly broken bits including a broken back and very nasty head injuries. Mostly we would fall backwards and there would be no chance of avoiding injury as it happens suddenly when your feet go forwards away from you. We`ve got to keep our body weight above our feet and take small steps

edit: my boots are white but I reached a point of not caring as it wa so hard to find something suitable. I would normally have gone for a darker colour but needs must

I was just thinking its not funny now. Its so cold it hurts your nose & throat to breathe outside unless you have a scarf over your mouth and nose. The rones have come down all round the house now and theres still a foot thick wodge of very hard ice sitting on the eaves ready to jump off & kill somebody lol. My kitchen windows are iced halfway up inside and I cant get my feet warm unless I shove them in the stove :D But we've got coal and food and tea ..albeit no sweeties !
    - and I'm listening to this mad c&w internet radio station in Georgia, with all those really howly sad songs :rotfl: Plus "The Rednecks Christmas " which is hilarious, and now its some guy singing that all his exes live in Texis and thats why he's in tennessee :rotfl:
