Coco, on the It's tough thread Ceridwen was asking what people would eat instead of bread (in the interests of being prepared). Off the top of my head one of the ideas was pancakes? If you're stuck for ideas, you could always list your ingredients and the Old Stylers will have you well-fed in no time. :)

We got more snow last night. Enough to make everything look clean and beautiful again. Everyone will have to clear their driveways all over again! It seems to be just sleety rain now though.

Am curious if the onions on windscreens worked!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

Looks beautiful Mar, am glad you labelled the compost bins pic cos i thought they were giant snow-covered maltsers you had stashed out back for emergencies! :D

  • More snow fell here overnight. A colleague slipped and fell after forgetting that the snow fell on ice - she's ok but the A&Es are chocca with fractures. At least DD's school is still open (it reopened yesterday after 3 days closed last week).

Coco, if you have any flour, apart from pancakes, you could do scones? They can be sweet or savoury as you want - and don't need eggs (I tend to use eggs for lunches rather than baking in this weather).

I just want to snuggle up under a duvet for a week, as I have a hacking cough that I can't shift and DD keeps coming in during the night to sleep (and wakes everyone) - so I either don't sleep on my own account or on hers and I am SHATTERED. Oh well, maybe after today's budget there will be more certainty and I can stop worrying as much.

The pine cones are almost gone, but they were great on the fire the past couple of weeks to start it off and also when we had no logs (to help eke out the coal).

I need to go order some snow socks for my car - I didn't drive much last week at all, but DH was out in his and found the socks great. But I have been able to drive over the weekend again and this week.

Otherwise, we haven't been too bad over the past 10 days. Food was fine, fire was kept going, we all had plenty of layers and our good hiking boots have been a godsend, and we've found that protective leggings of any sort were great to have too - I had a set of ski gear from summer sales (I really thought we were going to go skiing this winter, before DH broke his wrist) which has been great, DH has a winter leggings for cycling which at least kept the wet off, and DD has a pair of plastic trousers for over her wellies which are fine for a certain length of time (grand for walking home from creche, but only last so long when out playing and stomping in big piles of slush!).

And having a spare pair or two of gloves, hats, scarves has been really helpful too. DD kept getting hers soaked, and needing an alternate pair. And when we have been out a lot, (anytime it was sunny), it was handy to be able to change ours if one lot got wet. And knowing that nights when one set got wet on the commute home, there was another set for doing the chores once home (bins, coal, post etc).
