Preparing for winter II

sb44, you need Vaseline. I suffer terribly with cracked hands in winter made worse by constantly washing up or cleaning something or other.
During winter I keep a tub of Vaseline by my bed (no jokes thank you!) and as I get into bed I slather the stuff all over my hands, especially knuckles, rubbing into any bad cracks. Not so much that theres chunks of it coming off onto the duvet though!
I then wake up with nice soft crack-free hands. It can take a couple of nights to get them sorted if I've neglected them. I've tried alsorts and Neutrogena concentrated stuff is good, but nothing beats the bedtime Vaseline :rotfl:
I agree with the using of vaseline, I use it 24/7 on my lips, I havent done my hands in it yet, I suppose that would definately be a cheaper option than neutrogena...........
The next time my hands "crack up" I will give it a go,but like I said my lips are as bad as my hands and seem to need constant supply of vaseline.........Ive got tub of vaseline, by the bed,:eek:in the bathroom, on the coffee table, in the car, by the computer,I have the small size little ones in each coat pocket, Im probaly addicted to the stuff, but its very cheap stuff......:)0 -
Sylvan, just wait till London gets an inch... the tv will go mad ! When this settles down I'm going to Costco to stock up on UHT milk. It's bound to be better than the dried stuff !
the whole milk uht is actually not too bad, it's fairly creamy
i'd actually started using uht again when we were in the netherlands out of desperate financial need but fell in love with it there as theirs is sooo creamy even the semi is very creamy. it's not as nice in the uk (not sure what the difference is, it just doesn't taste the same) but the whole uht is the closest to the yummy stuff from the netherlands
one thing though, make sure you get proper uht and not the stuff that says it's sterilised... there's a big difference in taste and it's not pleasant0 -

Can someone please explain to me why I see all these little children - under 2 with no hats or gloves on sitting in buggies! They must be frozen!0

probably the same parents that put babies in jumpers and shorts, poor wee mites with their legs turning blue!
whilst many are prone to overheat the poor kids a good rule of thumb is one more layer for them than an adult (and a blanket if they are just sitting in a pram, sitting doesn't keep you warm!)... now i wonder how many of the parents with no hats or gloves for the kids have hats and gloves for themselves0 -
Hi thought i'd come out of lurking to say thanks to everyone for helping me be prepared for the snow, although still have more to do
. But mostly just a radiator foil, and some other stuff. I was going to add a photo of snowy northumberland (south east not the rural part that always has loads i was stunned by it :rotfl: :rotfl: ) but i don't know how
so if some kind person could tell me how i'll add one :snow_laug

I don't know, but it makes me want to slap the parents six ways to Sunday. It's not as if kiddies stuff is expensive, maybe it's trendy to have navy blue shivering children:mad:0 -
Well it has just started snowing here. It's settling well and has probably been going for about 20 mins now. I don't trust it to hang around though. Expect it'll stop shortly. Keep warm everyone!0

Snow here finally. Not much, just looks like someones gone OTT with the icing sugar but it's still snowing....and meant to be snowing all day. OH has gone to work, but I'm hoping he'll be home early. The sledges are still in the loft, and we have no ladder....
Have chilli con carne planned to dinner today to warm us up. I'll be taking the toddler out after breakfast, if I can get him into his snowsuit and wellies.
Here are some photos of SE London taken very early this morning......
