I had the heating on constant last night and quite high (well the rooms didn't get above 19* :rotfl: ) while we had baths so getting out the bath wasn't such a shock to the system since DD and I are both coming down with colds. I forgot to switch it back to auto though when I got into bed so our house has been hot all night :o I dread to think how much it will have cost me

On another note, thanks to jackieglasgow mentioning that the council website was down, I remembered to report the broken streetlight in the alleyway by my house. Its only been out for two weeks :o When it gets fixed it'll help my neighbours etc who put their wheeliebins out after work since its dark by 4.30 :) Also means better security for me as it lights up my back garden ;)

The snow is really bad here, there are no buses running in our area at all, the bus company hasn't put them on the road today because it's just not safe. DD's 6th form at Durham is closed and all the schools around here are shut too.

I was a bit worried because OH has dialysis today at Durham but the wonderful Lifeline patient transport drivers have managed to get everyone in, OH normally drives himself in but when we have snow he uses patient transport because it's safer. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that they manage to get him back home at teatime, if not he'll be spending the night in the hospital!

    brrrrrrr

well still no snow in London... but i was very chilly on my bike to work this morning..i'd put my waterproof trousers on over my jeans even tho it wasn't wet it was a welcome extra layer! Everything was fine except my poor face! pulled my cosy snood from primark up over my nose and i wear glasses to protect my eyes from the wind but still bbrrrrrrrrrr!! the rest of your body is moving and warms up but not your face!!!

Went home to Stoke this weekend to see my Nan for her 5th week in hospital..was furious last week - she was just sitting there (after being moved to a new ward) by her bed which is by a window in the hospital gown with her feet on the floor - which were BLUE! Not even exaggerating, her poor feet looked like when you see polar explorers having swollen blue feet. The nurse's left her like that because she kept saying she wasn't cold - my Nan is humble and wont make a fuss or say anything that means someone has to do things for her - but she also now has Dementia. I can't believe no-one on that ward has the common sense to just cover her up with a blanket or put her into bed - she was physically shaking!! When we went to the nurse at the help desk we were told flatly to 'ask someone else' the only other nurse around was doing the medicines so we know not to disturb her. Thankfully that nurse doesn't seem to be around anymore and instead the rest of them that we have met and work with my Nan are wonderful and make her smile lots - even when she is very naughty (trust me she is a nightmare flirting with male nurses and telling the doctors that her favourite nurse had been 'sleeping in her chair all day'!!!)

Does anyone else find train stations FREEZING!? Even the 'indoor' ones..Stoke station used to have an open roof but then they built one but its still like a wind tunnel and was so chilly waiting for the train back!

Also...that oil filled heater from Netto is poo!! Had it on for about 8 hours and whilst it would burn you if you touched it it didn't seem to warm up its immediate area much!! But i don't fancy driving back to get a refund i got so lost and if the weather is bad i don't want to be lost in it so it'll do as a foot warmer under my desk.

Just sent another email to the letting agents about my skylights, they need to hurry up. LAst week they were seeing to it ASAP...i've not seen anything. We're normally happy for them to come in when we are at work and bring whoever with them to do the work, the other week when a pipe under the sink was leaking they said they were coming on a friday, only for a handyman to let himself in when my OH was at home on a Saturday - without anyone with him! Apparently this handyman has a set of keys...news to us!! So i'm going to make sure i'm in seeing as work is quiet this week and i'll watch him and makes sure he does the bleeding job! If he's lucky he'll get a cup of tea but don't bank on it matey feel how freezing cold it is !!

  • Hey Mystra

I live in Rugeley, and Stafford hospital is our local. I am also a Student Nurse (not at Stafford) and I think its despicable what the hospital did to your your Nan!!!! And for a member of staff to say "find someone else" - that is just not on! We are there to make a patient's stay in hospital as comfortable as possible. Its not their fault they are ill.

As far as the Letting Agents are concerned, give them a timescale to get back to you. i.e. I look forward to receiving your reply within 24 hours. That way you can get back to them and demand action if they haven't been in touch. I was once told that having a timescale set out in written correspondence is often a catalist as its gives a deadline for action. ASAP can be as long as a piece of string! Its worked for me!

    thanks Diddly!

I was so shocked at that nurse's attitude as i always have such respect for them as i know you all work your bums off for nowhere near enough in my eyes. My uncle did say something to someone about her attitude and i think she must be working else where as none of use have seen her again - lucky for her as my Mum was so cross about it she would have got a lot of earache . The rest of the staff there are lovely to her though and know to just do things rather than ask her first because she will always say no as she thinks she is being a trouble to them, bless her!

Good point about timescale - like you said ASAP how longs a piece of string lol..going to email them again this afternoon and tell them i want to know whats going on and when before the end of the day...ok maybe 24 hours...i'm just chilly and cross lol :rotfl:

Took my OH 45 mins to do a 10 min journey to work and he dosen't think he'll get home. we've got no corner shop near and i've only got 6 slices of bread and half a 4 pint carton of milk and 2 kids home from school ....

WHAT?! You didn't buy any uht bread???? :p and you dare show your face in here :rotfl:

    sorry couldn't resist!

we're off to the post office later this afternoon and then sledging in the park and a much needed trip to lidl as we have been using our toasty maker a lot lately and are out of bread as well... and getting shockingly low on a few other things so since the weather isn't too bad here i thought i should grab things while i can, no way i can handle being without cheese, the horror!

i've been wanting to do an online shop but i'm not sure if they'll even make it to my house if the weather is going to be as bad as they say and i've heard stories of the truck just not showing up or even bothering to call and cancel so i'm def going to get my basics today THEN do the online shop...plus lidl is cheaper anyway and that's right by the park!

speaking of the park, the hills should be nicely full of icey packed snow now so i think i picked a good day to take her sledging but i wish i could have some of the extra snow others are getting, i know i'm greedy but i want more :D
  • Snow here in Livingston about a foot and a half, Asda cancelled delivery as streets haven't been cleared woman who phoned me also said they hardly have any staff in the store, not surprised. Ventured out to corner shop and they have no bread or eggs, I ended up buying crackers, cheese, milk, bacon cat food and some chocolate spent nearly £20  on that little lot. Have asked son to go on a bread hunt when he finishes work. Have dug our cat a pathway two days running so she can make it to the bush in garden and back safely. Heating on and off way too expensive to have on all day will probably change from Scottish Power soon it wont make any difference but I'll get something back from Topcashback. Keep warm x
    I love this place :j:T:j

Total chaos here. All roads in the borders closed or suitable only for 4x4 or HGVs, all schools off, hospital cancelled all clinics , nearest village had cars abandoned at the sides of the main street while people dived into shops, and the Co-op ran out of bread and milk before 11.30. IT's still pouring and theres heavy snow forecast for teatime :rotfl:
