My 30 year old boiler packed up the year before last and I had to have a new one.
The cost of running the old boiler wasn't much different to the new A rated one, and when I did the figures on it over the life of boiler counting maintainace and eventual replacement the new boiler works out more expensive by 30%.
It's easy to just think the boiler is cheaper because the gas bill is smaller, but there is more to it than that.
Hang on to your old boiler and be very happy with it, they break down far less often, my old faithful needed 2 minor repairs in 30 years.
We haven't got much choice Bluebag unless I go back to work when my daughter moves up a year or two in high school. We don't have any relatives etc to fall back on if she is ill and a lot of people aren't keen on hiring 50 year olds even if I do have a lot of work experience.
OMG! I don't believe I will be that next year!
You young ones out there who think anyone of that age is knackered and past their best, wait until you reach that age and realise you still feel like you are in your mid 20's!Make the most of it whilst you are young, it doesn't seem like 25 years ago next month that I started my endowment policy.

well we've been a toasty 0C most of the day
overnight we got near on 6 inches of snow and at times the wind shook the flat so much it sounded like a freight train rattling by directly opposite my bedroom window
i was going to take my daughter sledging today but the wind has been viciously whipping what sounds like tiny hailballs (sharp pointy snow anyone?!) against the window and we've had some proper sleet too so i'm waiting til tomorrow as i have to go into town anyway
and i have to say i am very very disappointed with my fake yak trax i got off ebay. wore them the first time yesterday and the one on my right foot came off 4 times! short of tying it on i don't know how to keep it in place, not sure what the problem is though as they're both the same size shoes and i put them on the same on each foot...
i'll try contacting the ebay seller but i'm not gonna hold my breath on getting any proper response. if anyone has any tips for keeping them on let me know please!
i think i may buy some black shoestrings when i'm in town tomorrow, i WILL tie them on if i have to, the difference in walking over teh same spot with them and without them was very noticeable0 -

That is probably the same size if not bigger than the one that I lived in on Anglesey for four years.
I'm def a town mouse after living on both sides of the fence.
It is nice to go back and stay a few days at my mother in laws there though, especially in summer.0 -
Looks beautiful Mardatha ... not a million miles away from Eskdalemuir which has a Buddhist centre I want to visit.
Well everything outside is frozen solid - the occasional car has driven past very slowly and I can hear the snow crunching under the tires. According ot Accuweather it's -4C now but I am snug inside with candles lit, heat on and a big mug of tea. I am starting another jigsaw (going through them all before I give them to charity shop) and this one is of The Snowman - very appropriate! I might have an early night to save heating costs ... and I won't be forgetting my hot water bottle and wheat bag tonight!
Stay cosy everyone!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

oh no, you just gave me ANOTHER weather site to check several times a dayit's 1C but realfeel is -7!
the wee one was playing out in our meagre garden for a wee bit and we too have just been enjoying a pot of tea (chai, mmmmm) to warm us through. it's going to be very cold feeling tomorrow so i'm going to make her wear 2 layers of leggings, 2 pairs of socks and a pair of camo style trousers for sledging tomorrow as well as the normal helmet chube (love that :rotfl:) and hood on coat, 2 pairs of jackets and very warm ugg style boots for her. she may even still be able to move after all that!
i got some really lovely leggings from evans last month, they feel like second skin and are so light at the waist they can be worn under trousers and they have been sooooo lovely so i'll def wear those tomorrow under my trousers as i will just be watching her and will def feel the cold more than she will
set for more snow tonight so i think the sledging will be a lot of fun for her. i hope the snow packs well as i'd like to make a snowman with her too0 -

They are all saying slightly different things and I am trying to figure out which of them is most accurate. The handy thing with Accuweather is it is an add-on for Firefox so it permanently displays in the status bar.
Good idea about the leggings. :T I have some old ones from Penneys (aka Primark) I think they will fit under my jeans.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
