Well we aren't ex council so I assume someone tried to save some money when they chose to have that type installed, I bet it was cheaper than the others.

We need a new bay double glazed lounge window and new double front door before the boiler. The glass looks like it will fall out in a year or two as the frames are rotting on the inside and we have mould behind the front door and that is on it's way out too! Plus their is the lack of security too when they are old style wooden ones, I bet you could punch the glass out of them!

Whoever owned the house in the past had most of the windows double glazed except for the two largest and the front door. :(

Not sure how cold it was here last night (I think it predicted -6 or something like that) but we have ice crystals on the edges of the side panes of the bay window and frozen water at the bottom of all of the panes!

My husband slept on the couch in there last night as he wanted to watch the cricket from Australia which was on during the early hours. I suppose that made more condensation in the room.

You have my sympathies too. I had an 25yr old boiler like yours, 3yrs ago!

I keep hoping the engineer who does the annual service will say it isn't any good anymore but he never does! :(

It's times like this when I wonder if it would be better being in a rented property rather than owning your own. At least then the landlord is supposed to get things done for you as opposed to being not able to afford them yourself!

Nice and white up here with about 8 inches of snow. The outside temperature is -6degC so I'm afraid the heating dial has had to be turned up. Fortunately I have a credit balance on my gas account so I'll have to eat into it a bit today. Tomorrow it's back to my box-room!!

    Awwww!

That's a shame, I bet you have some beautiful views.

Don't say exactly where you live but roughly which part of Scotland do you live in Mardatha?

The furthest I have been is Sterling, I worked with someone who came from Thurso and I sent an ebay item to someone on the Isle of Burra last week but that is it. :D

That is something I will think of doing if my daughter is in school and my husband is back at work. He had last week off so the elec and gas is always higher then as I can't turn it off when he is home, he hates having a cold house.

I suppose you take your laptop and a flask or kettle in there and put a small heater on, is that right Schrodie?

Just looked at Netweather and it shows -11 with a wind chill factor of -16 for this coming friday here in North Staffordshire. I won't be outside in the wind but I am sure as hell going to be getting some more ice on the windows by the sound of that.
