Just got a phonecall from the loft insulation company and they're coming Friday morning :D:j My house will be much toastier this coming weekend :D:j The poor fella offered me tomorrow which I can't do (voluntary job), then friday 8am (no chance as I need to get DD to school) so he offered me 9.30 :D Can't wait. Its noticeably colder in the house since I took the carpets up upstairs!
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • Thankyou for the sledges from Argos suggestion!! Have just reserved 2 to pick up after work tomorrow...... I have a nephew at Uni about 3 miles from here and I think I might just become his favourite Auntie if we do get the snow that has been forecast!!

Just been to B & Q to buy a big bag of rock salt. Couldn't get it for love nor money last winter. Probably won't need it although snow forcast up here in the east of Scotland by the end of the week. Also will get wellies and wellie socks on Thursday from Aldi

Does anyone know where to buy kids thermals online? i have looked at m +S and they have lots of stock but wondered if anyone knew of a better deal?

We have minus 6 daytime temperature predicted for next week, so need to get the kids sorted out. I tried to put their old thermals on them this morning and DS said they were too tight around his arms...

Better oil the sledge ready for the school run..

I was in primark on saturday, and they had loads of girls & boys thermal vests, really nice and soft, and only £2 -3 for a pack of 2. hth

We are the opposite... We don't eat that much bread (durrrr why did I buy kilos of breadflour?!) and often throw half a loaf away

I would freeze it but freezer space is precious here atm (i'm waiting to claim my old freezer back from the ex) so more expensive goodies go in there... Its packed full atm, no space even for a couple of slices!

Have you tried HM bread by hand, before you buy a breadmaker? Just a thought :)

i'm unsure where it all goes to be honest lol but we have a regular 3 draw freezer and it regularly has 2 loafs inside not leaving much space for other things as i have a lot of batch cook stuff (well as much as i can fit) Hope you get ur freezer sorted in time :o)

I have only ever made HM bread once a long time ago and i dont remember how it turned out tbh it was at school i dont have any loaf tins at home, and we have 2 mini ovens in our kitchen cos the cooker oven is old and broken, has been for years. I wouldn't feel confident in making the bread in the mini ovens in case it comes out unevenly cooked because its too close to the top or something (if that makes any sense at all) :p plus i would have to compromise on size.
  • I cook bread in a mini oven, though it isn't big enough for a traditional loaf tin. My oven isn't broken but I'm far to stingy to put it on just for a loaf of bread!

You need to make smaller, flatter loaves and keep an eye on them - I have to turn mine ever so often so the top doesn't burn on one side only. (I like mine burnt evenly!!) Also the temp needs to be lower than a traditional oven or it doesn't cook all the way through. If the loaves are a flatter shape obviously they cook more quickly too. Made a fab mixed rye and white loaf on Saturday, just finished it for brek today. Rather than making a loaf, rolls work really well in a small oven.

Otherwise there's flatbread like pittas, or oatcakes (the scottish sort not the Staffordshire/Derbyshire sort which you cook in a pan) All good in mini ovens.
