We're as ready as we're ever going to be this year. Store cupboard is coming along nicely although needs sorting out. It's not organised at all.

Snow jacket on for DD1 for school today along with thermal vest. Shes asked for 'tights like dad for under her trousers' think she means long johns! Maybe a Father Christmas gift.

DD2 has had her hot choc, got her wheat lion warmed up and her fleecey blanket. Heating on low all through the house and has been for some days now (altough off at night) happy with that.

Need gloves for myself, they aren't in the 'wrap up warm' hessian bag - a massive oversight on my part, at least girls' were there. A hat for me too, ears were frozen this morning.. ear muffs? Anyone wear ear muffs?
Well done on getting your store cupboard sorted. Sounds like you are very organised! :T Haven't tried ear muffs but really like my Buff headwear headband thing. Keeps my ears warm without my head overheating. The branded ones are pricey but Aldi and Lidl do them from time to time cheaply.

Tried PMing you but it wouldn't let me ... hope you're ok; please don't be driven away by abuse.

Edit: Well said Rosieben, so have I.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

When winter does finally come, as it has now, you always find out there is some tiny corner still letting in a force 10 draught !! Added to that, our front door last night was making a hellish noise, sounded like the Phantom Piper of the Haunted Glen !! Think the wind was from due south, which it never usually is here. it almost drove us mad !

Terrible night with howling gales and pelting sleet but NO SNOW !:D
    Still ongoing.

    Same here in North Staffordshire.

I hardly had any sleep as the dog was awake all night, she was scared stiff.

I let her out for the loo at about 3am and it was blustery and sleeting.

We had already given her some Valerian Compound earlier because of the fireworks so I couldn't give her any more.

Hopefully I will get some sleep tonight.

    :)

we now have the trolls posts thanked by another AE, a newcomer strangely enough, with 0 posts - I have reported this too

lets get back to winter preps :)

I'm pretty much sorted, have extra batteries ordered on next sainsbug delivery, bogof for aa and aaa so will have plenty for my camera, remotes, clocks etc

the only other thing I'd like is some big candles, the 3-wick type; I'll try wilks next time I'm in town. I know they sell them at m@t@lan but its a 2 bus journey to get to ours ;)

I could kick myself when I think about it now but 3 years ago I gave away a big cardboard box full of candles of all colours and sizes, loads of candle sticks and holders, tree of life etc, and glass pots; they went to a local charity so all for a good cause but I still sigh over them ... :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

The wind is really gusting bitterly today. We have double glazing but I normally keep the tiny ventilation slots in the top of the windows open to refresh the air in the house and I can't believe how much draught is currently blowing through them. Time to let the fug build up for a couple of days, I think, otherwise we'll be losing all the heat in the house..

Just seen the weather forecast continuing cold, wet and windy tomorrow. A bit better on Wednesday, then back to cold, wet and even windier on Thursday and Friday. Lots of winter warming meals this week. I do love the evenings when we are all home and we can lock the doors close the curtains and snuggle up in our fleeces with the candles lit. In the past I have saved the candles for weekends but I've got loads so plan on lighting them every evening, adds to the cosiness.

    Keep warm and safe everyone.

Rosieben - Sainsburys sell really big 3 wick candles but they are £10.

That's one thing I've learned 'living like this' is never buy a pole to hang curtains... and that's spoken from a girl who would only ever have chrome poles and fittings in a previous life. Can't beat snug and warm - even if my poles in the kitchen are Ikea 69p specials - they're a waste of time and money because of the draught element. Never again... ever.
I must agree, I've always liked the look of curtain poles but left the rails and pelmets that were already installed in our new (old) home when we moved in. It was going to be a temporary thing but am very tempted to keep them. My sister has them in her home and tells me that it keeps the dust off the tops of the curtains too.:)
Don't understand what the aggravation is all about but thanks for your constructive posts beingfrugal just ignore them;)
Very windy here today, using it to seek out those draughts that I might have missed, have even taped bubble wrap over the front door keyhole! (inside!) Wait 'til DH gets home, he already thinks that I've flipped :rotfl:(it's ok, I've made a kind of flap so you can still get the key in:D)

Winter has arrived here in East Lothian too, wind blowing a hoolie, rain this morning, then a glint of ...what was that? shush - sunshine.....now its grey and horrid again.........It was so cold in the sitting room I lit the stove, its doing quite well, just made it up with a huge pieve of wood which should last a while.

The blackout blinds DD put up are working well, the curtains at the doors are also doing their job, I think tonight, once we have had our supper, we might draw the inner curtains in the sitting room as well as the ones on the window.

The store cupboard is well stocked as is the freezer and the lamps torches etc are all handy in case we have a power cut.

Just finished a pile of ironing, that kept me warm for a bit. Time for tea and tiffin methinks.......

I have to nip to the Drs and collect a script for OH, think I might have to get my ski jacket out........
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
