    I think everything's getting smaller:

    Fireworks displays are shorter
Pub & restaurant portions are getting smaller
Food packs are being re-designed to hold less product
Compost bags are getting smaller and being sold £3 for £12 instead of 4 for £12
There are fewer apples and oranges in pre-packed bags
And so it goes on .......

It may be our age, but I'm convinced it's the Recession, and that the suppliers and manufacturers think they're fooling us into not noticing.

    I agree with you there!:)

Mine is a Hot Wotta Bottle, ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hot-Wotta-Bottle-Lilac/dp/B000RL2V8G )its fleece and filled with wheat and you heat it in the mircrowave for 2 mins. My daughters both have teddies that we do this to too. The snuggle down happily with them, tho you can make them yourself easily. http://www.suite101.com/content/wheat-bags-for-warmth-and-comfort-a50086

Just had another look on metcheck and the forecasted sleet seems to have got heavier. Oh I do love winter weather. I wouldn't mind a bit of snow!

I'm out all day tomorrow though - I'm glad that I am currently defrosting a chicken to chuck in the slow cooker. If it's going to be a wet and windy day I like to come home to the smell of a cooked meal!
  • yip, gust exceeding 30mph for us according to metcheck, not good when you have to walk the children to school. 'big' coats on tomorrow. Hot chocs all round when DD2 get back.

No snow for us :( love the snow but a worry wort when it comes to walking/driving in it. Going to try to stay calm this year and just enjoy it!

Hope those of you who want sow get it and those that don't, won't!

Good luck with the school run! Not fun walking in the wind!

I always assume that snowflakes and rain drops on a forecast is sleet. However, if I then go into the Metcheck snow forecast it says it is going to snow.

So for technical weather purposes is sleet classed as snow? Or am I just being really silly and don't understand! :o

And the BBC is even better ! -

Heavy snow and blizzard conditions across the higher ground in Scotland will add to the potential travel disruption.

I think it's just that the two pages use different forecasting models which say different things! Despite the weather outlook predicting snow for me tonight, metcheck says light rain, so I think I'll just look out the window to see what it's doing :p

and so it begins... sounds like those forcasting a nasty winter this year may have been right... this is very early for this sort of thing

    good thing we're all prepared!

after checking metcheck and seeing that it's supposed to be 3C overnigth but feel like -3C i finally got off my backside, stuffed MORE paper in the gap in my bedroom window and then put the fleece blanket up and over my existing thermal curtains!

i also made sure both sides of my daughters thermal curtain are snugly attached to the cuphooks for the tie backs so as little air comes around the edges (it's hooks that fit into big rings on the rod so it's not flush) so this will help a bit i hope.

soon i'm going to take her curtains down and sew some bubble wrap inside the duvet cover along with the blanket i sewed in there earlier. this way the neighbors won't see it and complain it's unsightly, i should think it would help.

i'd hoped to get away without the heat on tonight but i think i will go ahead and just have them on low. the neighbours seem to have their heat on high so i should be able to get away with that and stay a reasonable temp even if it does feel below freezing and it's blowing a gale

oh yes, blowing a gale, to hell with the landlord, i closed the vent in my unheated bathroom window too... i'll open it when it's not sub zero air blowing onto my toilet seat :p
