Since my last post earlier (having read the forecasts for this week ) I have

Bubblewrapped the glass on my kitchen outside door
Put up the fleece... I didn't have net curtain wire stuff so used string and now its sagging and you can see the glass in the middle of the sag! Still, it will do for a day or two (read month or two :D). Said fleece looks awful... its not long enough and looks like a right Heath Robinson job so once I get my curtains back I will fashion something or other from them.

I wish i'd got curtain tracks instead of poles as I have large gaps at the top and sides of my curtains - oh well, I will see whats the best way of extra lining the windows.

In my upstairs rooms where nobody can see i put those draught snakes ontop of the curtain poles to try and keep some heating in, they are also good to block out the morning sunlight in summer when i use my blackout curtains.

Howling wind and rain woke me at 4:30am. I had to go round the house and just check everything was alright - I'm like that.

I am off work now for a few weeks so getting this house shipshape and bristol fashion is about to commence. Garage is freezing despite hanging a big bed cover across it, it does temper some draft but I have to keep the door closed and as the dogs live in there they aren't pleased!

Plumber coming to sort out and check heating system on Wednesday - will get him to bleed radiator in front porch as well as I have never done it and watching him will prepare me for next time.

I have 2 sets of curtains now to put up at front, back and garage doors, and MIL has given me some blankets to line them with. Need to get some good thick cotton I think to do that with. The curtains are beige, so any surplus cut off I think I might dye and use to make gingerbread men for christmas! I fancy a bit of crafting once the hatches are battened down.

So apart from a few curtain rails needing to be put up I pretty much think house is ready for winter as it is fully insulated and the loft so full you can't get in! :)

Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.
  • We're as ready as we're ever going to be this year. Store cupboard is coming along nicely although needs sorting out. It's not organised at all.

Snow jacket on for DD1 for school today along with thermal vest. Shes asked for 'tights like dad for under her trousers' think she means long johns! Maybe a Father Christmas gift.

DD2 has had her hot choc, got her wheat lion warmed up and her fleecey blanket. Heating on low all through the house and has been for some days now (altough off at night) happy with that.

Need gloves for myself, they aren't in the 'wrap up warm' hessian bag - a massive oversight on my part, at least girls' were there. A hat for me too, ears were frozen this morning.. ear muffs? Anyone wear ear muffs?
  • i wear ear muffs! they're very useful, hats are a pain in the rear to wear if you have your hair in a ponytail. hmmm. :)
  • Oooh but if you cut a wee hole out the back of the hat, for the ponytail.....

    Sorted hehe

hello nid. What's the chances of leaving me alone now. I'm tired of this now. I don't want to be a part of any of it anymore. Just live and let live eh?

Back on topic. ear muffs? no poney tail! nid noooooo! so charver ;)

This is the Preparing for Winter thread, I'm sure we'd all prefer personal arguments to be conducted elsewhere; if anyone has problems with a poster the correct way to deal with it is to report to Abuse, which is what I [STRIKE]will be doing if we have any more of this[/STRIKE] have done.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
