Finding clothes for skinny child

This is a source of constant frustration in my house! I recently bought some "slim fit" Next school trousers for my slender DD but they still need pulling in at the waist!!!! However, the fit around her hips is better, less baggy. They only do a very very small selection of their clothes in slim fit. I think manufacturers are making their clothes in ever increasing waist sizes to cater for the many overweight children that there are. Large children are now almost seen as a normal occurance these days. My son is what I would say is an average size but even he needs his waistbands pulling in or adjusting.
The best outfits for my DD seem to be leggings and dress tops or dresses and tights. She's not really into wearing dresses so most of the time wears trousers which I use my sewing machine to adjust the waist & hips, although not always successfully!0 -
DD is 15 and really only needs age 10 clothes, not good when all her friends have got womanly figures and have girly shopping days. Luckily she's quite quirky and into japanese fashion so we order a lot online/ebay (she's got a personal shopper in Japan to get round customs duty)0

Hi,
Vertbaudet do slim, normal, and large in the same ages for some of their jeans. My DD will not wear trousers of any style so not needed to buy them yet but if she ever needs them that is where i was planning on getting them (also age 4, needs 6 for length and in 2-3 pants).

Try Asos kids. They sell some skinny jeans and stuff and the sizes are on the small side (imo).0

im 18 and still have this problem! jeans are a nightmare to find, but i know the us stock smaller sizes , mosty have to stick to tights and skirts/dresses im quite tall but miss selfridges petites go down to a size 2/4 . tkmaxx go down to smaller sizes though and alltogether im not too fussed as childrens clothes are far cheaper , just got to stick to the basics though ! hopefully ill fill out soon though as it can be a little frustrating trying to find shops that stock smaller than a 60

i'm sick of manufacturers putting ages on kids clothes, no two are the same!! my daughters are really tall and big for their age so i can't get clothes to fit either. i wish manufacturers would just do a whole range of measurements to choose from, and have more elasticated waists and longer school skirts, everything is a fixed waist band, and the skirts are about a foot long, not good if you're, ahem, slightly big boned. my daughter is 11, and already in a 5.5 shoe and a size 12/14, if i bought her an aged 11 anything, she wouldn't be able to get it on one leg, other daughter 8, wears aged 11 clothes, and she's not even chubby. Its just as hard for people with big kids as tiny kids!!:rotfl:0

I have a nightmare buying clothes for DD, she is 6 1/2 and only weighs 2.5 stone. Most of her clothes are age 3-4, also she wears a spinal brace which gives her an artificially high waist. Recently we have been buying leggings which have been great for summer. Not sure what we are going to do in winter now though.
Trousers are a no go because of the brace - the crotch to waist length is never long enough so they dont stay up. Tights are ok but they tend to fall down because the brace is shinyish and they slide right off it. Thinking maybe long leggings and boots?
I buy most of DD clothes from M&S, Gap, John Lewis and occasionally Next, though i think their quality has dropped a lot in the past few years. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Ordered extra slim skinny jeans from N3XT for DD and DS. DD has age 11 but I still had to use the 6th hole on the adjustable waist elastic on each side. She pointed out that she could have got another one of her into the waistband. The legs are VERY skinny though so I don't think there's any chance of them falling down.
I'll get DS to try his on later and report back, but I suspect the same thing will happen for him.

But if your children are larger than average you can go up a size or two and shorten if necessary, you can't go down in size and then make clothes longer. If children are proportionately bigger or smaller than average getting clothes to fit isn't a problem, this thread is referring to children that are slimmer than manufacturers expect them to be for their height.0 -
