Finding clothes for skinny child

You have no idea how delighted I am to see that other people have the same trouble as we do (IYKWIM)!
My 11yo twins are pretty average height but really skinny. DD wears age 7-8 knickers and they have both just had new school trousers from Next because they do an extra slim range with roughly age 8 waist on age 12 length. However, unless I am looking in the wrong places, they don't do slim fitting skirts and age 7 skirts are FAR TOO SHORT for her. Nor do they seem to do "normal" clothes in slim fittings. I have no idea why not.
H&M have been reasonable for skinny jeans (still needing a belt).
I shall keep an eye on this thread to get ideas where I might be able to buy clothes that fit.

My DS is extra skinny and I usually get his things from Next, M & S or La Redoute.
No one has mentioned La Redoute yet but they do the adjustable waist that actually looks fine even when you pull it on to the highest band. (I appreciate this is for boys but I am sure the same applies to girls)
They are a catalogue but obviously on line.

I love this post as it comes up in this household almost on a daily basis. All my children have odd sizes and especially my daughters and I seem to be having trouble buying regular sized clothes. For my 11yo girl I eBay trousers and leggings from Boden and Joules in a couple of sizes smaller than her age. They seem to be a slimmer than average.
Have a look in your area for pattern changing sewing courses, it might be worth being able to alter things in stead of making new or putting up with the bulges.I never realized how much personal info is out there that can be used and abused to suit every purpose.0 -
I see Gap is mentioned alot for smaller sizes but after their history of using child labour in sweat shops in India i am loathe to pay their prices0

I completely agree with you kegg, and this is actually my argument when people go on about the atrocity of shopping at primark (TBH I rarely even go into primark as we don't have one close by, but it is just principle!
)- most shops do it just some make a hell of a lot more profit from it than others!! I ebay or charity shop trawl to get gap clothes as I simply couldn't afford to buy the stuff from there all the time, and like you don't like the idea of giving them my money. 0 -
I am really struggling with my 14 yr old son at the moment - he has a 24" waist but is tall for his age (almost my height of 6'), i managed to get him one pair of trousers whilst in the US Super skinny but even they are a bit big around the waist. When he has his school trousers on it looks like he is wearing a nappy made from a bath sheet they are so baggy around the bum, thank goodness for blazers to cover. The other problem I have with him are sleeve lengths he has really long arms (takes after his mum for that) and you end up getting a bigger chest size which just swamps him.Fibro-Warrior0

my dd is slender too, still wearing age 2 knickers, but needing age 7 for length. I have just passed on the age 3 school skirts as the length had got a bit too mini!
She really likes wearing leggings, and of course in the summer there is no problem they are short and aged much younger.
At 4 i dressed her mainly in dresses and tights.
School trousers i bought from adsa but had to take in the waist by 2 or 3 inches where they had elastic, been doing it so far by folding and sewing at back but dd now complaining this 'wad' isn't comfortable, so she's in school dresses and skirts at the mo.
She has one slender pair of monsoon jeans (bought in the sale), they had a large turn up which has now been put down to last longer, but she is happier in her leggings as finds them more comfy.
She also has tesco jeans on the adjusters, but does complain of the buttons in the take in bit so i think i can learn alot from the posts on here if and when we start looking for more trousers/jeans.nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.0 -
DS needed a bright coloured plain T shirt for a show he was doing and the only thing I could find was a 3-pack of short-sleeved vests from M&S. They fit him beautifully and look like skinny fit T-shirts on him. (No idea what they would look like on average sized 11 year old boys though!)
Thought this might help somebody else.....MFiT-T2 #49 December 09 £15373, January 12 £0 target £0 by 12/12/12
