  • Well done to the above who lost 5lbs! :O so jealous!!

Bet the sheets were lifting off your bed that week ;)

I asked this in an earlier post but does anybody know anyways of staying reasonably good whilst on holiday in Europe. My first Week is in Germany and the portions are HUGE. Anybdoy know any good ways to keeping slightly on track? what best days etc?

    thanks!

Thanks... lets say I didn't feel too lady like :rotfl:

MrsM lives in Germany so she maybe able to give you a few tips for her neck of the woods.

I live in Poland and find not too many diet drinks here or the other european cities I've been to so I either have to suck it up and syn them or drink water when out (I don't like coke and the only diet drink here seems to be diet coke).

It isn't really any different to eating at home, plenty of salads and veggies to accompany meat dishes and the usual pastas etc. I would advise trying to keep it as low fat as possible and carry some fruit to snack on and stay away from the fries, bread and pastries :rotfl: . If you are full leave it, you don't have to eat everything on the plate :D (it's harder said than done I know :))

But you are on holiday so first and foremost enjoy yourself you can just be extra good when you get back.

Where is it you are planning on visiting??

  • Hi all, can I join you all please?

I joined a local SW group a while ago and managed to lose 8lbs, but DH went on nights at work and I wasn't able to go, then one thing led to another and I ended up coming off it completely. I don't just come off a 'diet' with style, I do it spectacularly!! :rotfl: I'm a typical yo yo dieter but really want to change this

Well my lightbulb moment has hit home when I was shown a 10 or so year old photo of myself in front of a few friends, and their reactions, well lets just say the look on their faces just said it all. I was horrified :(

However, onwards and upwards I say. I understand the diet fully but the consultant at the local group is rubbish. She has no zest for the diet at all, a lady at the group asked how many syns were in a can of some drink, and her reply? -"I don't know as I don't drink it." Surely she should have looked into it? Anyway I'm hoping for some like-minded support from you lovely lot and hoping I become a regular poster on here...

I have 5 stone to lose:eek: so it's an almighty amount, there is no time limit or rush, I will just be sensible and try every day to stay away from the goodies that got me to this fat place!
I may need lots of help with this :rotfl:
    Thanks for reading! :T

As the others have said is there not any other groups you can go to?

Where i live there are loads run by the same woman that i wasn't to keen on but i managed to find a couple hidden gems so i know if i miss one night i can go to the other.

and join the club i have 5st to lose in total.. though i admit i'm one down..

I've always been chubby but then i lost nearly 2st when i was 16 and looked great, got a bf got comfortable went to college (started drikning ;) ) put a stone on broke up with him put more on then lost some a year later then met my current bf and had put over a stone for each of the years i've been with him!:eek: Doesn't help he's one of those twigs that can eat what he likes!

But i think the turning points to lose weight was when someone said i looked pregnant (and i wasn't!) and i saw this horrible photo of myself where i was in mid conversation with someone, it looked like i was wearing a barrel with a cardy on the top!

But here's to change and a slimmer us for crimbo :T

ooh, minus syn values, that's good ;) (if only!)
I don't think I could have only one jaffa, I would have to do the "full moon, half moon, total eclipse" thing :)

haha but i bet it releaved that bloaty feeling!

Thanks for the tips, I only drink diet coke or diet pop so i'm ok for the drinks side, if i do have a proper drink its usually vodka so thats not too bad, problem is i'm going to Munich's Oktoberfest (beer festival) where the Steins (Mass) come in litres! i'll just have to resist the giant pretzels...

I'm going away with skinny minnies who eat what they like so i know there will be peer pressure but i know all the walking (and when a bit tipsy dancing) about the places wil help. Ilove veggies but most seem to be smothered in butter or fried *drool* so i'm going to have to try hard.

Trying to stop eating when you kinda feel full but the plates still loaded is another hard challenge but i'm up for it!

I'm then off to Zurich, Slovenia, Verona, Prague and some other places in between!

Think i'll need a holiday to get over that!

    Thanks for the help!

Dizzy -hope your trip to the hospital isn't to nausiating for you, and that they don't prod n poke you about to much!!

Fruit salad -the Germans don't do skimpy portions do they :p -I have been out here 4 years so far this time.... although I guess living here is different as Im not at the mercy of the restaurants etc -where abouts are you visiting and where are you staying? if you can be bothered then the supermarkets out here have a much bigger selection of most things than we get in the UK, so you can stay on plan in there...
EDIT -you have answered whilst I was typing....

Trixietoes -we have the same problem -if you are out n about and want diet pop its often cola or go without and that has helped me give up cola as out here the diet is much sweeter than the UK version :(

Ahhh I was in Munich at Easter and had lots of lovely sausages and steins of beer - this was pre plan so I do sympathise with your difficulty.

I've not been to Zurich o Verona - yet. But Prague is a lovely city and Solvenia a really beautiful country (I lived in Croatia for a couple of yrs so spent a lot of time there - Lake Bled if you can get to it).

Have a fab time it sounds like a great adventure, wish I was coming with you.

  • Tomorrows challenge is Cottage pie (veg n mince) with root veg mash, thats going to be a tricky disguise orange mash !

    :D

I love mash made with sweet potato and you dont need to add as much else to it in terms of butter etc. It is particularly lovely on a fish pie, mmmm. You could always sprinkle a little cheese on top or put some paprika in it which would disguise the colour of the veg. I reckon he will love it :)

If you've not got accom booked for Bled, we stayed at Travellers Haven. 5 min walk from the lake. It was lovely. There is an apartment or the hostely bit. V clean and modern, we had the apartment.

I'll stop dominating the thread now. Sorry ladies.
