  • Hi Skint,

    I've started shopping in Aldi more & more - things I tend to buy:

    * Cous cous - all flavours - 100g cooked 0.5 syn
    * Cottage Cheese - natural - Low fat balanced lifestyle 100g - syn free
    * Light cheese triangles - 1.5 syns
    * Fat-free natural yoghurt - 500g?? - syn free

    Kidney beans in water - these are sooooo cheap (19p I think??) but the nicest kidney beans I've come across
    Baked beans & spaghetti in tomato sauce - taste fine to me

    i find Aldi quite expensive really,i shop at Sainsburys and use their Basics range,beans are 24p i think? and really good,they also do great tomatoes and big potatoes for jackets,i tend only to shop in Aldi for their cheap fruit promotions thing that they do as i can get most other things cheaper in Sainsbury's,but their Basics range,i'm tired now i'm rambling and repeating myself,night night all,its Sainsbury's Basic range thats good,have i said that? ;)

    Anyway, WI for me last night - another 4lbs off, that's 1 stone 13lbs in 7 weeks :D Joining the gym has helped, weight lifting is so important for losing fat in my opinion. It's more important than cardio.

    Forgot to add - I got slimmer of the week for the third time in four weeks, and got slimmer of the month and a trophy too :D

    I don't like basic baked beans but most branded bb are always on offer 4 for £1 somewhere (Iceland, Asda) so I get those instead. Other than that only basics savoury rice is free - other basic stuff is usually synned. I shop in Sainsburys at the mo as it's close to work but I want to try Aldi

  • Has anyone used the 10 minute solution series? I LOVE them, got 3 different ones and looking for more. I find it so hard to commit to 30-40 mins right out, but when it's chunks of 10 mins I don't find it so hard at all :)

    Sorry but catching up on the thread...

    YES I have 4 of them and I LOVE them also. I usually try to do 3 segments if I can. I have pilates, kickboxing, target toning and carb & calorie burner. The last one and kickboxing is a killer.

    In fact I will get them out and dust them off for Saturday as I plan to do bike and a long walk tomorrow.

    Looks perfect to me!! Also dont stop at 5 spoonsfull of the soup, as most of it is speed, youll lose quicker by having more of it! :D

    500 cals a day is a lot to burn off through excercise, especially in 20 minutes. To do that you're talking 20 minutes of running at around 70% intensity which is not easy and definitely not sustainable. If you definitely want to burn 500, do it in 10 minute stages and look to burn around 100 calories in each - walk at a brisk pace for 3 minutes, run/jog at about 120bpm tempo (listen to Heat Dies Down by Kaiser Chiefs if you're not sure) for 5 minutes, then back to brisk walking for 2 minutes. Do that 5 times per day and you're looking at ~500 calories. To answer your other question - there really isn't a healthy/unhealthy amount to exercise, as long as you listen to what your body tells you. If you run 10k and feel like you can do it again the day after, by all means go for it. If you can't, don't. Your body is smarter than your mind, trust it. Always, ALWAYS listen to your body. It will tell you when to stop.

    Anyway, I'm not sure why you're looking to burn specific amounts on SW but I presume you want 3500cals per week in order to lose an additional lb (3500cals = one pound), and if this is the case you need to count your ingested calories, not just the ones you're trying to burn. In short, if you want a 500 calorie defecit over your BMR, count what you eat and eat less. In short, do the things SW tells you that you don't need to do. I lost a lot of weight (5 stone) before SW by following calories and exact macro ratios and 100% nutrition calculations together with calorie based gym sessions - and it really works but is life-consuming and very expensive. Lean protein and taking in the right amount according to your LBM (lean body mass) is also bloody expensive. SW isn't far off the right callculations even if it is very carb-heavy. Trust in SW, it will work.

    If you can do some resistance training (weight lifting) at the same time, you'll be laughing. Join a gym - they will help your calorie goals too. There isn't really a reason not to, they're not expensive and everyone is in there for similar reasons so no need to feel embarrassed! It always makes me smile when people say they aren't confident enough to join a gym despite it showing that they want to change, but have no problem walking into McDonalds and ordering a Big Mac despite that being the main problem! People won't laugh at you in a gym, we're not all meatheads! We all understand the reasons for the gym being there and if anything you'll be admired for taking that step. I would rather hear 'come on, one more lift!' than 'would you like fries with that?'....

    Forgive the rant - it's early for me and already been a rough day at work!

    I dont burn 500 calories in just 20 mins a day. I actually do 4 sets of 15 - 20 mins a day (5 - 6 days a week).

    I have a fear of leaving the house without my hubby or a friend so thats the reason I cant face thr gym right now or a SW (or other) class. And forget McDonalds I havent eaten them since I was a teeneager many years ago! I also have AS (a degenerative condition of the spine and other joints) so I have to exercise when I can before I get a flare up (which when I do get a flare up it all goes back to square 1 as I am literaly bed ridden with the pain and unable to move far until it subsides).

    Other than the daily chores I dont have a lot else to do than spend hours on the internet, so since starting to lose weight this time round (almost 2 weeks ago) I have been tryig to avoid being online until the evenings so have plenty of time during the day to complete 4 x 15 or 20 min workouts. I can see how you called it life consuming and not sure if it will be sustainable (in any form not just exercise bike) but will try my hardest. I need to change, I am also sure as I lose weight I may venture outside these 4 walls alone again. I have asked and asked and asked but no one wants to come to keep fit anyway with me. Theyre all too busy and slim enough!

    Theres no reason I have to burn 500 calories I just assumed it was a normal average for most people, thats why I asked as I wasnt sure. I just noted the other day that 15 - 20 mins on the exercise bike burnt 125 cals (I ride with the local radio on and as you say follow the beats of the music they play and slow down during the ad or news breaks or whenever theres talking).

    I have sustained healthy eating since February but wasnt shifting any weight because I wasnt exercising. Since I started exercising 2 weeks ago the weight has just dropped off.

    As you say I am not sure it will be sustainable and am now worried what will happen when I reach target and drop the exercise to 3 or less times a week. Can you suggest an alternative regime?

    Congrats on the weightloss yourself. It was a bit of a rant but thanks none the less :o

    Thanks :)
