Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I tried those Scan brans last week - 1 mouthful was enough to put me off:rotfl:but then I hate ryvitas too!

Like cardboard, worse than shredded wheat that I also hate!

Think I'll stick to the odd rice/corn cake/breadstick and add the syns on - even the birds will not eat the rest of the scan bran - and had soaked them!!!

I can see it's difficult. I've only been going to SW for a month but I can see already that the pattern of meetings is very 'samey'. I have a few ideas (recipe swaps, sharing good offers on free foods from local shops etc) but don't think I should mention them until I've been there a bit longer and lost a bit more. I wouldn't want any 'regulars' to feel I was patronising them. On the plus side I have met some nice people and sharing with them is motivating. A bit like coming on here.
I haven't been in the situation before but I would go for a clean break. At the end of the day, the goal is for you to lose weight and feel better about yourself - you can't keep going and shelling out the money if you aren't getting anywhere!

Also, my nosy self wants to know if your nickname is a reference to the same band as mine

Yep - I have. Sort of.

I was with my group for a year and a half but never felt hugely comfortable with the dynamics. I lost 6 stone though.

    Put one back on...

Decided to go back - but decided to try a fresh group to see if it was more 'me'.

I lost my 6-stone-lost status and actually haven't mentioned to my consultant how much I've lost (she knows I've done if before though). I don't mind - it gave me a fresh start and a new target to get back to my lowest weight.

And though the group follows much the same format (which I do find monotonous!) there's something about the consultant and group members that makes it a more enjoyable experience.

I say go for it - you're not getting anything from your current group and it's natural for your relationship with your group to change as life changes and you change. It's okay to want to start a new relationship somewhere else.

    Just my two penneth.

Thanks everyone and well done on all your weightloss'! Last night I decided to bite the bullet and instead of going to my normal group, went to another one which is closer to home. I was very nervous, but you know what? It was SO refreshing and I am so pleased I went. I can't even put it in words lol The leader was very friendly and there was an energy about the place, just so refreshing! So many more things going on and different things were talked about. In the end I get to keep my 'status' silly word I know, because I had one week left on my countdown from my previous group, so I didn't have to rejoin, just transferred over.

I am just so happy. My new consultant even shares her own weight loss/gain with the group if she is in or out of target. I think it was my time to have a change :)

I also wish there was a feedback system for slimming world, my old consultant was sometimes quite rude to people in image therapy, and quite unapproachable at times. An example would be walking into group and not even getting a hello if something had put her in a bad mood. We are all human but this was starting to happen more and more. She has been a consultant for around 15 years though so I guess she does something right. I have spoken to so many people who left because they did not like her way. Even another consultant has told me she has a name for herself but nobody stands up to her. :/

I did have a gain of 4.5lb but not surprising as I haven't stuck properly for 4 weeks. Glad I've gone back as I would have went right back where I started! Onwards and upwards! (or downwards lol!) :T thanks everyone x

ok, so having decided to think about what i am eating i turn to my slimming world starter pack. in there is a 7 days to sucess extra easy menu planner. One of the meals in there is fish, chips and mushy peas, sooo where the super free food in that?
  • That fish, chips and mushy peas meal has been on the plan for years. I think it's to reassure people that they aren't going to have to give up fish and chips. I found a 7 day meal plan print off from a few years ago before EE and I've been using that. EE looks a bit scary to me. That said - I've had a god awful end of the week. My non-sleeping toddler has kept me awake most of last night and all day today. I've had the munchies like you wouldn't believe and worst of all I've been to a friend of a friends house today and although she has a toddler and is 32 weeks pg, her house is bloody perfect. I was ready to dive headlong into the chocolate.

    Today
    red day

    3 eggs
    cottage cheese
    Jalapeno peppers
    Spring onions

    2 malted milk bickies 4S
    1oz raisins 4S
    Banana

    2 McD's chicken nuggets 3S

    2 slices bread HE
    1tsp butter 2S
    Ham
    Mango chutney 1 Tbspn 2S
    Cucumber
    Orange

Then I lost the will to live and cooked.....:(

    Roast chicken
    Carrots
    Noodles
    Beansprouts
    Spring Onions
Peanut sauce - I had about half of this - no idea on syns.
    2 Tbspns peanut butter
    2 Tbspns rice wine
    2 Tbspns oil
    1 Tbspn sesame oil
    1tsp brown sugar
    1 tbspn sesame seeds
    red chilli

I'm gonna have to be more planned. My problem is I really don't like convenience food. Can't bear it and I won't give it to my son. I'm not going to start cooking several meals and I have real problems giving him frylight and stuff so hmmmm I'm going to have to have a big think over the weekend.. come up with some easy from scratch recipes..
That chinese pork sounded marvellous btw!

  • Does anyone know whether basmati rice is free on a green day if it is dried?? Thanks.

It doesn't specify different kinds of rice in the handbook. Just says rice - free on green. Mangia :D

Thanks Helen - I looked in the book and on SW website and it didn't list basmati rice but I found an article on the SW website which was about Indian restaurants that said "enjoy piles of boiled basmati rice for free".

The really weird thing is I put the basmati rice I used thru the syn calculator - if I put it thru as dried then it is syn free but if I put it thru as boiled basmati rice it is 9 syns - I'm very confused!:(

I find that while you can eat Pasta 'n' Sauce etc (never tried it but told it's easy and convenient for people pushed for time) on SW, I love it because you can eat proper HM meals with loads of veg, fruit etc. I don't see it as a plan full of convenience foods. As a newbie, what's the problem with frylight? Are there nasties in it? I thought it was basically a mixture of oil and water.

Don't mean to sound bossy, just want to hear about the pitfalls as this is all new to me.

Radiohelen - I don't eat convenience foods at all - I only eat fresh stuff and avoid chemicals and additives at all costs.
I have a few food sensitivities too, and the SW plan can accommodate all that with ease.
If you look through the last few pages of this thread you will find many good recipes using fresh food. I think the convenience foods are there for people who want just that - convenience. With a bit of forward planning you can make sure you always have something in the fridge that you can eat, and when all else fails my default easy dinner is jacket potato, baked beans and cottage cheese!
Most of the recipes are very family friendly too - I don't have kids but I'm sure someone will be along soon to back me up.
    Good luck.
