Hi everyone , I am a SW newbie, but I have been reading this thread all of this week to get me ready to start tomorrow. After being an on/off WW follower I have to say that I am actually looking forward to starting a diet  just can't believe how much you are allowed to eat. Anyway, the other reason for posting (other than saying hi) was to ask if there is anyway to work out how many syns are in the things that you buy that aren't on the list - like the WW points calculator?

Hi Cande :) I'm ex-WW too. Are you going to meetings? If you do when you go they give you a pin to access the extra features on the website, which includes a syns calculator.

I have to say, i'm only a week in, but this is so much easier than WW! You don't have to spend your entire waking life thinking about 20g of pasta is this but ooh what if i have 60g?! LOL

One quick question, if someone could look up the syns for me for a M&S dish I just bought? It may not be online as it does say it's a new product but I could put the nutritional info if needed. It is a Chargrilled Mediterranean Vegetable Pasta Melt, weight is 1kg!! 145 cal per 100g, TIA if you can help:D

Hi lightisfading, I'm trying it out at home at the moment as I can't really afford to pay for a membership just now, so trying to get my head round it. Really hard trying to switch from WW to SW, constantly thinking 'but most fruits have points on WW' or 'on WW I should only have a tiny bit of meat/pasta/rice/potatoes etc!!'

Like I said I'm starting a new diet tomorrow, and what am I starting this new diet with?????? - a fry up!! - how barmy does that sound.

Is there anywhere else that you can get the syn calculator at all?

No syn calculator I'm afraid, but there is a formula where you can work out roughly how many syns something is - however I googled it but couldn't find it :o The way a previous consultant explained it to me was good. Assuming you're on Extra Easy, Think about the supermarket:

The fruit and veg aisle: all free as long as its fresh and not prepared in any way.
The meat section: all free, just remove the fat.
The milk and cheese section: get out your book to check type and quantity
Ready meals, fresh pastas, soups etc - avoid unless you know the syns
    Tinned veg - all fine
Dried goods as long as they're unflavored they are likely to be free: so lentils, pasta, rice etc
cake, choccy, wine - have in moderation.

just wanted to recap my day, as much for my own info as anything.

    b: houmus and crudites (3)
    l: cereal (6) and rice milk (A)
    Cereal bar (b)
t: JP& tuna mayo (quite a lot of mayo, so i'll count 4) and ham (3) and cucumber.
    late night: cereal bar (B)
    apple x2 and a banana

So 16... it snuck up on me today :o had forgotton about the cereal and wasn't really prepared for tea.

Tomorrow I shall go to the supermarket (ah bliss, asda on a saturday morning ) and get some stuff which will hopefully mean I am well stocked up for a busy 2 days. :)

Thanks for the recipes consultant :)

The person who wondered why they are 3lb lighter in the morning, its because you lose up to 2 pints of water over night, in sweat, breath and urine.

    Morning

Well done to all the losers especially skintslimmer - 6lbs is brilliant!

Thats great news about your ear dizzyk - my ears get blocked up regularly (nothing as serious as yours) so I know how annoying it is not to be able to hear.

WI this morning and I lost 1lb so I'm just 1lb off my half stone. Still feeling positive though I know I need to do more exercise next week (I think I said that last week - perhaps I'll start a body magic award).

Today will be a green day:

Br : Toast (2x heb), beans and bacon. 2 tsp marg (4).
L : stir-fry (2), noodles and some speed veg, onions, carrots, anything alse I can find...
T: Shepherd's pie (2) (hea, cheese) and more veg.
    Skimmed milk (hea).
Snacks - fruit, WW yogurt (When A*da bring my delivery, anytime between 12-8pm).

Also going to keep an eye out for the postman! I would love new mag today!

    Have a good week everybody.

    Good morning all
Well done on the losses :j
and Helloooooo to the newbies... Im an EX WW-er too :p

Sorry for being MIA yesterday -but hubby had booked Friday and monday off to make a long weekend..so we went out for a walk around the golf course and stopped off to look for a showerproof jacket and some hopefully waterproof shoes for the golf course on the way...so by the time we got back and I had fed n watered us -I was pooped....
Anyhoo -I got a jacket -nothing fancy, just something to throw in my bag when I go to the gym in case it rains on the way home AND I got some shoes... in a 5.5 (instead of what I used to be,,,,, an 8-8.5) which meant I got them for €10 as they were in the junior section :p .... ooohh and I got a couple of pairs of trousers for the gym too ;).
I was a twit yesterday *nothing new I hear you say* I had a nana for brekkie and we didn't get back in until 3pm  ... still I managed to ignore the gubbins in the naafi when I nipped in...
ooohhh and the balsamic braised beef casserole was a super hit and as predicted our visitor went back for 2nds ...and considered 3rds  -In the end there was still enough left for me to plate hubby a dinner up to nuke when we got in yesterday ;)
