hi guys,
need some advice as i am very confused.
i mentioned a while back that i joined sw to not only loose weight but to help with my ibs. and i do think it has helped. i am not getting attacks as often now though i am abit windy lol.
however i finally had my dietician appointment this morning at the hospital and they want me to go on a low fibre diet.
so no wholemeal bread, no fibre plus bars, no alpen light, no fruit or veg with skins on, no cold pasta/rice/potatoes
am really confused, their advice is directly contradicting what has been making me feel better this last month!
anyone with similar problems got any advice?0 -
Can I ask, does everyone do exercise on SW or do you just rely on eating healthier. We were told to try and find something you enjoy doing, but there is no form of exercise I really enjoy doing (hence why I am at SW
) I run up and down the stairs at work more often then I used to so I am doing something. What does everyone else do?
Both are vital, but eating healthier is more important in my opinion. You can run a marathon every weekend, but if you eat McDonald's for every meal you're not going to lose anything.
Me personally, I run about 6k, four times per week (15 miles total per week) as well as a split routine of weight lifting, and also boxercise once per week. Every gym session I always follow up with 20 minutes of swimming for muscle recovery. I am a programmer for a living so that means I get zero exercise at work - maybe about half a mile of walking per day if I'm lucky).
I eat as clean as possible Thursday-Wednesday afternoon, and even my syns are healthy (brown bread, protein supplement etc). I treat myself on a Wednesday evening to a takeaway or a meal out and completely ignore syns, then get straight back on it the next morning.Wootball - I see where you're coming from, however I feel you have misunderstood SW a bit where you say 'Nobody ever seems to mention that they can eat as much steak or chicken as they like, since a lot of the focus is on carbohydrates. '
Because you can, on EE and especially on Red days, eat as much proten as you want - you can have steak and chicken for every meal if you like. I think that's how SW started, hence 'red' days are actually called 'original' days.
I understand SW, I get the concept I just at times feel as though it's not complicated enough to allow body composition change as well as weight loss. I know you can eat as much protein as you like (although I don't recommend it) but feel that the importance of protein isn't pushed as hard as it could be. The main plan being pushed to new members is EE (myself included) and the primary focus seems to be 'fill up on rice and pasta'.
The problem with pushing that way of losing weight is that even though it works tremendously well and really does help lose weight, most of the target members I have seen have that 'I can tell it was a person that has lost weight' thing going on - which isn't a problem but it's not what I want. SW really does work and I love it, I just adapted it to fit my overall goals.Whatever doesn't kill me, can only make me stronger.

Lucy_Lastic wrote: »I'm going to try a Batchelors Pasta N Sauce for lunch today, as it's been mentioned so much here.
I see the Macaroni Cheese one (on the SW website) is 2 Syns without the milk and butter. Are you all using your HE milk and omitting the butter? Is it OK without the butter?
I find the food optimising book a bit confusing as it says Pasta & Sauce, all varieties, made up as directed, dried,
100g cooked 1.5 6.5 1.5
There is 108g in the packet, am I supposed to weigh it when it's cooked?
So, re my post above - I made up the pasta with the water and milk. It was OK. So on EE how many Syns do you think I should give it? I did not weigh after cooking! Not sure if it should be 2 Syns for the lot or 1.5 Syns for each 100g??

I have similar issues with IBS and have found that SW helps as it is low fat. I have also been on low-fibre diets but to be honest fat is the biggest problem for me and causes most of my attacks.
It's interesting that they have said no rice - rice is one of the most easily digested foods and is ideal for combatting IBS - when I was suffering for days (literally in bed in agony) I was advised to eat only plain boiled rice as it is a soluble fibre.
The probelm with a low fibre diet is that it can have an equally harmful effect in the opposite direction (ie. constipation)
Fruit fibres and wholgrains are harder to digest (insoluble fibre) esp for those with IBS, however some are essential for keeping yourself 'regular' (apologies to everyone else for the 'toiletyness' of this post!!)
In essense i understand why you have been advised to cut out fibre, but I would try to discuss what you have found with SW (that it is helping you) with the people at the hospital and in the end work out what works best for you - i have managed it with trial and error to be honest, using my doctor, the internet, my common sense and my experiences, and each case is different for each individual.
In the meantime if you google 'soluble fibre' and 'IBS' you can get some more info.
I find this site quite helpful: http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber1.asp
hope this helpedBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

sorry they didnt say no rice but said i cannot have cold or left over rice, pasta, cous cous, potatoes
apparently when they are cold or reheated the starch becomes resistant and it has more fibre!?!?
so god knows what i will have for lunch at work now!
thank you for your post btw. i am going back in a month so will talk to them some more about sw.
to be honest i got stuck with a student who was not very confident and wasnt really listening to me so hopefully i will get someone better next time0 -
Cheap_Date wrote: »Lisa, it's 5 of those blue cheese Laughing Cow deli-light squares for a HEA. Are those the ones? They're yum! I love blue cheese!
Thabks, yes it is those ones. Blimey I would never eat 5, that would really break the shopping budget! I've had 2 and I'll have some milk to make up the rest! I love blue cheese too but I have to say I was disappointed with them, I can barely taste the blue cheese, I have to really think about it to get even a hint of it!! I'll stick to the normal ones in future!!0 -
Good morning all
Well done on so many great losses everyone :T
BettyB -My signature on minimins is HUGE:rotfl:-a lot of it is when we have tickers on there for various challenges we are doing... and well mine also has my stickies on for every 1/2 st I lose
Well the spanish rice with chorizo and chicken was a hit... well let me re-phrase that ...it would have been "stunning" if *someone* hadn't got heavy handed with the chillies  ..... twas hothothot....
I will post the recipe later as it will be much nicer next time -and is definitely on the "do again list". In the end it only cost me 2syn as even though I halved the recipe there was loads..... so I only had about 1/3 ...
Todays EE meal plan is looking like this:-- 250ml semi (A)
- apple
- banana
- 12 speed soup
- activia intensely (2.5)
- raspberries/blueberries/strawberries/cherries
- apple
- balsamic braised beef casserole (1) smells yummy so far
- mashed potato/swede
- roast parsnips (0.5)
- nobbies
- cauli
- broccoli
- activia intensely (2.5)
- fibre plus bar (B)
- apple
Well yesterday I went through some more magazines *still loads more to go* and Im finding some really scrummy recipes ... the casserole tonight is a newbie -so pinkies crossed its a good one... we have someone here for dinner tonight so I will be suprised if there will be any leftovers ...even though Im doing 1kg of beef as this lady may be nice n slim-but boy can she pack it away-guess its a compliment though!!
right I had better get off for now...will catch up later..have a lovely day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Please could someone look up a syn value for me?
I have a bottle of Absolut Vanilla vodka.
I know normal vodka is 35ml for 4 syns, but i was wondering if this is in the syn directory as i'm not sure whether the flavouring would make it more synful?
thanksBetty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

hello all. too many posts to catch up on properly during my lunch so will save that for later/the weekend :j
Hope you are all well. Well done for all the losses (someone lost six pounds somewhere - can you send some my way....) and hugs to all who need them. :grouphug:
Im having green again today
here is my menu:
Breakfast:
2 slices of warburtons healhy choice wholemeal 400g loaf (HEB)
2 alpen lights bars (second HEB)
Lunch - Pasta (which I cooked last night & reheated). I included lots of veg including peppers, mushrooms, carrots, onions, sweetcorn etc
Syns so far include an option hot choc (2 syns) and a small buncake from a work colleague - don't know how many syns for this but will allow the remainder of my syn allowance..
Tea is stuffed peppers. The recipe is from the one pot wonders book but I am going to alter it slightly and have chestnut mushrooms, onion, cherry tomatoes and corgette which I am going to cook first in my wok, mix through with the rice and stuff into the peppers and roast in the oven.
Pudding if I need it will be a mullerlight yogurt.
have a good afternoon all.
My HEA option will be for my parmesan cheese - some of which I have had on my pasta and some which I will put on my stuffed peppers tonight0 -

Oh ok, i guess that makes sense. Does make lunch tricky, i agree.
Glad i could help.
Hope you get on better at your next appointment.
I like SW as it is very limiting with regards to dairy (very fatty) and insoluble fibre (like bread) so i do find it ideal to help with IBS.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
