  • Who was it who always lays out their meals beautifully (remember the photo that crashed our computers)? Mrs M or Dizzy, I forget. Anyway you've galvanised me. Last night was "leftover day" and also yesterday I bought a lovely big flattish pasta bowl from a charity shop to match my new (non existent yet) kitchen. So I filled the bowl with rocket, arranged cucumber and beetroot slices around the edge. Then I chopped in some smoked mackerel (little syn), some chopped seafood sticks, and a load of little prawns that I had heated up with chopped garlic, spring onion and Aromat. Then I mixed up 2 spoonfuls of fatfree plain yog with a big splosh of soy sauce, just because I fancied it. Mixed it well until it was a caramel-colour and drizzled over. I would've taken a pic but was starving by then and noshed it, but it was worthy of a fancy tv chef!

Today ladies and gents, on your behalf, I am experimenting. I followed the recipe from the World of Flavours for Stifado, then realised there was waaaay too much stock to do it in the slow cooker, as slow cooker creates a load of liquid anyway, so I saved half the stock (all the necessary wine had gone into the slow cooker, so that's ok). I realise it won't thicken in the slow cooker either so I crumbled a scanbran into the half-pint of stock and have been slowly reducing it. Frankly, it smells of scan bran, and I think the thickening has come from the reduction rather than the scan bran, but hey ho. I'll let you know the final verdict when I try the meal. I shall probably have to scoop off some of the liquid from the slow cooker and reduce that too, I don't like my meals "wet", especially as they have to be carried in to work!

  • I keep forgetting to pop a couple of sachets of Butter Buds into my bag when I go out - then if the vegetables are tasteless (like the cabbage at yesterday's pub meal) I can scatter some buttery taste over them!

  • Hi everyone,
I'm a red day today, and for dinner I am following a recipe from a small slimming world booklet my friend lent me, called '40 Fabulous Recipes'. I'm trying out the Lamb and Bean Cassoulet later. On an extra easy day the recipe, which serves 4, have 1 syn per serving. Unlike some of the other recipes in the book, it doesn't say how many syns it has on a red day. How would I work this out? Just syn the green beans and haricot beans? I've already used my HE Bs on breakfast this morning.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful,
    Thanks a lot,
    Bob Cat

The green beans are free, haricot beans on red are 4 syns per 28g but free on EE and green - any way to change your day?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

    Afternoon all

well done on your loss Guns :T

Thanks for the congratulations everyone :D
Blackberry-rum -yes..twas I who posted a photo that crashed the pc :o... its amazing how much more you enjoy a meal that looks pretty isn't it...
The stiffado is gorgeous -but even done on the stove there is still too much liquid -most SW recipes I use I put about 1/2 the suggested liquid in and wait to see if I need to top up -but like you I don't like "sloppy" either;)

Well hubby is home :j and neither of us fancy a roast so Im concocting a beef stir fry -which means I will have 2A+Bs to use and more syns (no yorkshire or potatoes)... So I will figure it out in a moment...
oohhh and to add to my loss -I did my measurements earlier and in the last 4 weeks I have shed another 23cms off various bits of my anatomy (Im amazed as I have hardly been to the gym with hubby being away so much) .... although it means my 4 new bras that I got about 6 weeks ago are now in need of replacing - they are a 46E and with my new measurements I need 44F :rotfl: -I knew that these weren't as comfy or as well fitting as when I got them... so I guess I will have to order 2 more (not getting more as they don't seem to fit for long)
right enough waffle -I will get off and make dinner..have a great evening all!!
