  • I've just about had enough!! On the very edge of giving up trying SW alltogether A month on since I started trying and am sick of salads, fruit and Syns! Found a note in my diary today which I made on 4th January this year, it tells me I am now 1lb heavier today than I was back in January after nearly 10 months of trying very hard to lose weight.

    Today I have had

B - Low Cholesterol drink (Tesco Strawberry), Plum.

L - Dino Rod soup (chunky).

D - Dino Rod Soup (chunky) plus a rustic olive and sundried tomato roll (Tesco bakery) spread with Flora Pro Active Buttery.

Snack - Raspberries & Blueberries with a drizzle of runny honey.
1 large weak glass Tesco Cherries & Berries squash, 2 cups tea (Skimmed milk, no sugar) and a cup of hot water (to warm me up).

Walked to mum in laws to feed her cat as she was away for the day. Then later me and hubby had a walk along the seafront then I spent half an hour chucking pebbles in the water (trying to get rid of my negativity).

I have been totally fed up all day again, wondering whats the point and why I am bothering. :(

It seems as though everyone has had a go at helping you, but unless you eat more of the listed free foods I don't think SW will work for you.

I understand that you have high cholesterol and therefore use the cholesterol-lowering foods, but if you ate a healthier (SW) diet you may find that your cholesterol levels will fall naturally and you can save yourself a whole bunch of money because those speciality items are very expensive aren't they?

My friend had her cholesterol checked a couple of years ago and immediately began to buy all the things you've listed. Over a 6 month period they made absolutely no difference to her cholesterol levels. I talked her into joining my group and 6 months after that, not only had she lost over 2 stone in weight, but her cholesterol levels had fallen below 5. The Doctor was very pleased with her, and she has continued to eat the Food Optimising way ever since.

You really do need to be eating more during the day. If you're sick of salads, stop eating them. Have a jacket potato with baked beans and 28gms cheese grated on top. Have your vegetables roasted - there's nothing nicer than a load of sweet potato, butternut squash, tomatoes, onions etc, roughly chopped, drizzled with a little oil (or use Frylight) and slow-roasted in the oven - yum!

Another thing you should do, is have more variety - the soup is lovely I know, and good for you, but having it twice a day is overload. Plan your meals so that you get a good variety of proteins, carbs, etc etc. You MUST have your Healthy Extras if you follow SW. They are there to make sure you remain healthy.

If you're a person who can't eat large amounts, try to eat small portions 5 or 6 times a day - if you're eating the foods listed as free or low-syn, you can eat as often as you like and still lose weight.

Have you tried out the menu on the website? Look at www.slimming-world.com for a 7 day plan. At the end of the day, if you follow the plans as they are set out you are guaranteed to lose weight, but you're not doing, and that is why you're getting so fed up.

Hope some of this helps you make up your mind if SW is the plan for you :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Alisont -you could slice your mars bars and freeze -then you can just have a wee bit at a time... and could you bash the biccie up and sprinkle it on a nice creamy yoghurt -again to make them last longer and to spread the syns out.

Well my pasta dinner was yummy -I have amazed myself at how much 50g (dried weight) of pasta actually is -I struggled to finish it
Hubby got in from golf about an hour ago and went back out for a gyros... and as nice as it smells -Im still really not interested in it:jI have pilfered 2 fries though....
think I will get my ryvitas, cheese, a ginat pickled slug and my iced coffee mmmmmmmmmmm
    have a lovely evening all

  • Hey all, woah you move fast on this thread! First day of work went ok....I hardly ate beacause I was on the move so much. I had breakfast at 8.45am and I didn't have my sandwich until 4pm! I know this isn't idea

I'm concerned that I won't be eating enough and also that I'll reach for junk food because of this.

I didn't make it to weigh in as I was caught in rush hour traffic, plus my working shift patterns will make it difficult to commit every week. I'm thinking to switching to a SW online.

I'm disappointed because I really want to succeed at this but it seems I've had a few ups and downs with crutches, redundancy and now the new job.

Rather than reach for junk if you've gone too long between meals, why not take a flask of home-made soup with you. You can drink it from a mug whilst on the go. A banana is another easy to transport option as a quick energy giver and it releases slowly so helping to keep you fuller for longer.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

  • Hello everyone, and can I say before I forget that I think Dizzy, Mrs McCawber and Consultant should have been sainted while the pope ws over here, they are so patient, and kindly, and explain everything over and above the call of duty :A. I confess I sometimes find myself growing impatient with people who (a) don't take the advice offered, (b) can't be bothered to look back two pages but would rather someone else look back for them, (c) want others to invent all their meals for them. Sorry for mini rant, but we are nearly all working and don't have a lot of free time, and I sometimes feel if you are pc-literate enough to find this thread and post on it you are pc-literate enough to use the search box at the top of the page or google something. I realise I'm probably the only meanie on here, but we are all MSE-ers and time is money, definitely one's spare time is! Sorry, rant over, and not aimed at any particular person.

Now, I have either made a terrible miscalculation or I have saved the sanity of crisp-lovers doing slimming world. Sainsbury's be good to yourself 35% less fat cheese and onion light and crunch snacks. Hardly trips off the tongue. I can't find them listed in syns so I've done 2 calculations, one using the pack size and one using 100g and it comes out the same 1.5 syns per packet!!!!! :D(4.5 on original)

    per 100 g = 448 Kcal; 4 g protein, 66.6 g carb, 18.4g fat, portion size is 21g bag.

The salt & black pepper version is the same syns, and they come in a multipack at about £1.25:T
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!
