But are the platinum cards see through? I like my see through blue.
As many shops don't accept Amex anyway, I get it handed back with "Sorry we don't accept amex, but thats nice isn't it?"
None of my other cards get those comments.I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven0 -
Hi All I am new to this site.
I have a Amex Platinum so I have suffered the same loss with the new cashback rates. I also have a Morgan Stanley Platinum which gives 1% for the first £2k which is usefull when Amex is refused. However they are offering 3% untill 1st March on new cards. So my wife has applied for one for both of us which we will use for everthing untill 1st March, right over Xmas. Got to be done. Phil.0 -
A couple of points that I hope someone can clear up for me on my platinum amex account:
3% cashback - I don't recall seeing any details about this bonus when I signed up (card came though late August), I've phoned amex but wasn't convinced by the answer when I asked if I was included in this current deal. Can anyone fill me in if this applies to all account holders for 3 months, did the 3 months start in august, etc etc? My first bill is dated 16/09.
Cashback values on the statement - I've never understood these boxes, I had a blue card last year and still didn't understand how they come up with these figures !The balance on my 1st bill was 254, yet the eligible spend is 508, on the 2nd bill its 445 - new eligible spend is 888. Cleary its (practically) double, but why?
They don't make this easy for us do they

Surely one of the differences between platinum and blue is that platinum has a £300 annual fee and blue is fee free?
Unless I'm missing some info about how to get rid of the platinum annual fee which would be some very useful info...0 -
Pleeeaasssee don't do that to me ! There is no annual fee with the Amex platinum card or the blue card. The differences between the 2 cards are the cashback % and levels that Martin has listed in his article. I've just spent 5 mins running around trying to find the annual fee details on Amex's website to prove the details ... I did not want to find myself on the wrong end of a £300 fee that I wasn't aware of !

You are confusing the AmEx credit cards with the charge cards.
Charge cards (traditional AmEx cards) have to be paid-off in full at the end of the month and have "no" limit on spend. Some carry an annual fee as well, such as the Platinum Charge Card, £300 p.a.
Credit cards only need the minimum amount paid off every month, they have credit limits pre-assigned to them and if you go over that limit you usually get docked charges. These usually do not carry annual fees, such as the Blue Credit Card and the Platinum Credit Card.Unless I'm missing some info about how to get rid of the platinum annual fee which would be some very useful info...
Don't know what you're on about here. If you don't want to pay a fee, get a credit card and pay it off on time?!?!?!0 -
carp. sorry for causing any confusion. I think google threw me to the 'wrong page' of platinum card info. I didn't even realise there was a charge card.
I'm suffering from technical issues with the amex home page and I'm struggling to get any real information about the danred thing.
thanks for clearing things up.0 -

Not to worry. For future reference, this is the link for the Platinum Credit Card which is the cashback Platinum and has no annual fee:
